The game failed to mention that bedbugs are actually well known for causing psychological trauma, particularly OCD because eradicating them requires you to be extremely vigilant and to have a very intense attention to detail since they're extremely good at hiding. Kind of a missed opportunity on the dev's part, they underplayed bedbugs!

Nitpick: Inconsistent retro filters. The intro video is a digital file. Except it has a vertical bounce like a film projector. Except it has digital graphics. I get that The Youths(tm) were born after this era. But so many people are into retro displays. This sort of thing should stick out. The video would have had to be made on a computer, transferred to film, then scanned back into a computer. It doesn't come across as retro. It just comes across as "slap more filters on". What you COULD do. Is you'd need a "found footage" layer where someone aimed a video camera at a TV, with the bad camcorder effects. So it was made digitally. Transferred to film. Shown on a TV. Filmed on a camcorder. And the camcorder could record straight to digital. Then this would make sense in universe. Except it would be way uglier.

that kind of thing is disappointing but unsurprising at this point. indie horror loves its inaccurate filters and anachronisms 😔 there's a later video called "science mysteries" that has plenty of text displayed in a commonplace, modern font, and it instantly felt less like a file made before most of chat was born and more like a seventh grader's powerpoint presentation. I like that this game has plenty of schlocky, cheesy acting, but other than the FMV segments, the visuals really leave something to be desired. (there's also the video about local open houses having every address be a breaking bad/better call saul reference, but that feels more excusable since those are blink-and-you'll-miss-it details in the part of the video that isn't meant to be the main focus. your mileage may vary 🤷)

yeah one of my nitpicks about the game is just how un-1996 it feels despite that being when the game takes place. some of the characters do not have a 90s look to me at all, especially carol, and some of them don't even really talk like how people did in 90s FMV games, and i know like thats a very specific thing to notice but when you have characters that look like and sound like they definitely know what an iphone is, it takes the immersion of the game out for me. i tried playing it myself but i just felt like it was trying to do too many retro aesthetics at once and it ended up making things underwhelming. sad because this game has potential too. the creators did say they were inspired by hypnospace, and inspired they definitely were, but they tried too hard to make it seem similar to the game without understanding the charm of hypnospace outlaw and what makes hypnospace.. hypnospace.
