► In this lesson, @jakenicolle is teaching us a Vinnie Colaitua inspired shuffle that he heard Vinnie playing in a jam session with other musicians. He's breaking down this sextuplet based (16th note triplets - RlrrlK Lrlrrl) groove and explains there are several ways to develop the idea:
1 - begin by learning the pattern as demonstrated
2 - move the idea from the hi-hat to the ride cymbal
3 - practice the idea on the ride cymbal, using your left foot to keep time
4 - keep the sticking the same but move around the drums
5 - play the pattern between hats and snare while improvising bass drum placements
6 - practice until sick to the stomach
► INSTRUCTOR: @jakenicolle is the founder of @180drums and @sundayseat. After touring and recording with artists across North America and Europe, Jake decided to pursue his passion as a music educator by building 180 Drums. He's gone on to fall in love with the business and just recently bought out his partners at 180 Drums, relaunching the brand in 2020 and bringing on drummers from around the world who he thinks are remarkable drummers and educators.

Great lesson! I always struggle moving the patterns around the kit. How many hours does it usually take you to be able to do what you did in this lesson?

It's a nicely explained sticking. Thank you very much. Nevertheless I suggest counting the sextuplets: 1-trip-let &-trip-let, 2-trip-let &-trip-let a.s.o. This might make it easier to know where you are in the subdivision(s).

Hey man, just wanted to say this a great lick/lesson. Also I wanted to say how refreshing it is to see someone actually showing the working out process and actual struggles on a lesson. It's very refreshing. So often we go to these lessons and the teacher is just absolutely blazing around the kits with absolute perfection. What people don't realize is they spent hours on learning said lick and flubbing many many times. Can't wait to check out more lessons. Keep up the good work!

Jason... Probably the most meaningful thing you could have said brother. And you know what? I completely relate. It can be pretty intimidating seeing so much talent out there these days. I'm glad you enjoyed the lesson and I'm honoured to have you as a subscriber!
