GENERAL INFO
Museum of Glasses:
Situated in the nine streets. Check the map below for all locations.
You'll find a small museum here and a shop, where you can buy all kind of glasses. The staff is friendly and helpful, and glasses are not expensive. Mostly between 80 and 120 euro's, depending on the design you prefer. And I am talking about Rodenstock, Dior or Playboy here! All vintage, but new.
After buying a frame here, you go to a optician and get your actual glass custom made.
I Love Vintage:
The frustration, when you found the perfect second hand dress, but it just doesn't fit! That's a problem you'll not have here ;) Because everything is newly made, there are dresses available in all sizes! Love it :)
Kingsday market
When whole Amsterdam transforms into a mix of a big second hand shop and a party scene. Depending on where you go, you'll find a bit more of either one of them. I prefer the area around the Sarphatipark. Where there is a lot of people, but not too much, only a little music, and especially a lot of second hand stuff! Early morning you still find the most beautiful items (and then I really mean early morning) and at around 4 o'clock you can get most things almost for free.
Waterloosquare:
This place has it's own style. What I like the most is the big piles of clothing. You'll find the best hidden gems in here, for almost no money.
IJhallen:
Only once a month (in winter) or twice a month (in summer). Always in the weekends.
Because it's in the north of Amsterdam, in an old industrial building, it is a world on it's own! Take a few hours to walk around, and especially: talk to the people. Almost everyone is happy and friendly here. I really enjoy that :)

It was a bus trip from Germany to the Tulip Festival and then a quick stop in Amsterdam. It was all very quick, but better than nothing : )

Definitely check out the glasses museum, and if you need some, buy a frame :) It's around 100 euro's - and you can get your glasses elsewhere for around 60 euro's. Got some Dior, Rodenstock or Playboy for little money :) Hahaha, you'll be fine with public transport then I think ;)

Do you get to IJhallen using the ferries behind Centraal Station or do you use another route? My wife loves those kind of markets we call them Flea Markets in USA. You are the best love your content!

I use the ferry, yes :) You can also go by bus but the ferry is for free and just behind central station. Besides: riding the ferry is very nice :D :D

Hoi Jennita, ja! De brillen vh brillenmuseum koop je altijd zonder sterkte. Je laat er bij de opticien glazen op sterkte in maken - maar alleen als je t nodig hebt. Anders koop je de bril, en ben je klaar :) Op de noordermarkt zit ook n winkeltje met brillen - als k me goed herinner. Goedkoper, maar ook veel minder keus!

+John Doe It's beyond problem even - when you don't get your bike stolen for a long time you're actually surprised. When you do not double lock it - you're also very surprised when you come back and it's still there ;)

+Travel Gretl I didn't notice bike theft, the last time that I was in Amsterdam. I thought it was funny the way bicyclists would ring a bell. I didn't realize that the bicyclists actually expected you to get out of your way. Here in the US, only kids ring bells on their bikes.

Hahaha, yeah, even moving here from the south I was surprised by bike life in Amsterdam. All goes so fast, people are really impatient. I learned not to think when biking, just make quick decisions, people otherwise get really cranky ;)
