Wow - beautiful playing. The hog topped J45 picked is to die for.

Both are beautiful, but since owning a few 1950’s era Martin dreadnoughts I’d prefer the Adirondack top J model. I recently heard a 40’s banner J-45 with a maple back that was excellent. Love your presentations.

I started searching for videos on 1943 J45s with mahogany tops because I came into one recently and never imagined how great a mahogany top can sound. Of the two you presented, I would say from your video that I prefer the sound of the '43 a bit, which honestly surprises me. Thanks for sharing. Just curious- which did you end up buying, or which did you prefer?

To answer your question which one did I keep: The hog topped '43 is mine, and the Adirondack topped '46 belongs to friend who loaned it to me for that comparison. We even suggested swapping guitars because both of us thought the other's guitar could fit our different playing styles better. I ended up keeping mine, although the Adirondack topped 46 is a great guitar: a bit more focused with more cutting through power in ensemble playing from the Adirondack top. Mine being a tad more mellow and responsive.

43' to my surprize is tad richer. Never had an all mahogany slope shoulder Oh' to obsess about these fundamental tones. Both are fantastic. 43' sounded better with cowboy chords but 46' had a bit more oomph up the neck.
