I love it, AMSR writing. I love the sounds of gliding pencil on paper.

Hi, Kevin! The eraser surprised me. A solid performance, I'd say. I love seeing these vintage pencils being used. Thanks to Lucie, for sharing her bounty and thanks to you, Kevin for the video!!

Hi Nancy! Thanks - it's always a fun adventure to try out a vintage pencil!

Thank you, Kevin, for reviewing the pencils! My husband would have been more than pleased. I have no doubt he used them over and over and gave them to his students when they needed them. My guess is that they probably were made for that reason. Thanks, and I hope we can listen again to the great music you were bringing us every Saturday morning!

Thanks again for sharing these wonderful pencils (and others) with me, Lucie! My radio program stopped after one year - it wasn't able to find a local audience, unfortunately. I'm hoping to find a new home for it!

The eraser did quite well. I love petrified erasers. They give old pencils authenticity. If it looks super old - make no attempt to disturb those beautiful ferrule fossils. :) Great video!

Thank you, EP! I agree with you about the erasers giving a certain authenticity to the pencil!

We did some work with the New York City Housing Authority back in the 80s. Generally in the New York City government-speak, CAB. usually denotes community action board. These boards are usually 50 to 100 members depending on which branch of the government they are associated with. I could see why they would have these on hand for residents who are attending the meetings. So maybe they are quite rare?
@AlwaysAnalog10 ай бұрын
Hi Tahoe - Thank you for this explanation of CAB. It makes sense and these could have been used for work among the board members, etc. Thank so much!

I have a box of these that my mom had saved from her teaching days a good 50 years ago. The box says they are Ravenwood Pencils made by Reliance Pencil Corporation in Lewisburg, Tenn.
@ronakwestel85635 ай бұрын
Actually, I see now that they’re a different lot than the ones you show here. They only say BOARD OF EDUCATION - CITY OF NEW YORK on one edge, but they have all the manufacturer info on the flip side. Now you’re making me want to sharpen one and see how it is.
@AlwaysAnalog5 ай бұрын
Hi Ron - this is great information! Thank you for sharing it with me. Even if the pencils don't have the exact same imprint, they may have come from the same manufacturer. Thanks!

Standard default performance. Between MAMO's reviews and yours of these old pencils, I've come to expect this. Only thing I could add is, this must be an OLD pencil if it's a US government order that actually works fine. Since about the 70s, if a gov. employee wants writing performance, he has to supply his own stationery. I agree, normally the front end is sanded, but that's purely for commercial appeal. This touch has no influence over the pencil's function. That's a corner I'd cut myself.
@AlwaysAnalog10 ай бұрын
Hi DFT - it's too bad now when government ordered things are expected to be sub-standard. Price is the bottom line for everything now, which is why things like quality, service, reliability are all vanishing. Thanks!

What's the last eraser you used, the black one? I couldn't hear the name or see the label.

That's a Muji eraser.

The black eraser is from Muji - it is made in Japan.

How many pencils would you say you go through in a year?
@AlwaysAnalog10 ай бұрын
Hi Jeb - hard to say exactly because I don't keep count, but easily over 100. Depending on how much work and writing I'm doing, I've used many pencils up in two or three days.
