I repaired one of these for a friend of a friend. It needed some work on the pigtail fuses. The SX-6000 was around this time frame also.

Greetings from an avid Pioneer collector! I agree - the 727 is a great receiver. I lovee the slight slant on the faceplate. Somehow I ended up with 2 of them. The first one was near mint, bone stock and came in the original box. The other one was filthy and would not pass audio thanks to corroded switch contacts. That got a total restoration - caps, transistors, lamps and a quick tuner alignment. It cleaned up surprisingly well and now sounds & looks great. TBH, from a sonic standpoint, I would be hard pressed to choose between the 727 and a Sansui 2000x I picked up last year. Just don't tell the other avid Pioneer fans on Audio Karma.

Sansui 2000s are sleepers for sure.

@@millervintagehifi3034 Hello Miller --- Looking to purchase a serviced 727 next week but have not seen/heard it yet. I am doing some prelim research, hence this video. Thanks for the info, very well done. I've read, and you address, the speaker connection 'issue'....... not something I've seen before. Would you say its something I need to look at closely when I visit the seller? The box looks quite nice and he mentioned it being checked and serviced for transistiors, bulbs, etc that were showing issues. Not a full re build though. $450 is asking price. Thoughts? Thank you very much!

Hi there. I’m now trying to put my old stereo system back together after many years dormant. I watched your video on servicing a pioneer pl12ll and was invaluable to me working on mine. I have a question. I have a mid 70’s Sansui 661 receiver and I need new speakers will klipsch rp500M speakers work with this receiver?
@millervintagehifi3034Ай бұрын
I like the Klipsch RP500/600 speakers. The answer to your question depends on a few variables like music choice, listening preference, room size, speaker placement, etc... I ran a set of these in my living room and really liked them - the bass was a bit weak, but my living room is 'open concept' and rather large.

I had a 661, the sound was surprisingly good, and for me worked into any speaker pretty well.

I have an sx 828 and noticed the dial "glass" seems to be a type of plexiglass. Surprising, because both my sx 737, 750 are real glass.
@millervintagehifi3034Ай бұрын
Is the 828 glass OEM?
@ronaldfriedline9297Ай бұрын
@millervintagehifi3034 didn't know what that meant, I looked it up. Is OEM real glass? It didn't really tell me. Does that unit you have appear to be a real glass? Mine seems inferior to the one in my 737 and 750 models
@millervintagehifi3034Ай бұрын
@@ronaldfriedline9297 OEM is 'original equipment manufacturer'...in other words, is it original to the unit or did someone replace it with plexiglass later on. Models before and after the 828 used real glass, so my assumption is that plexiglass was used to replace the original (probably damaged) glass. The 727 I have in the garage right now has real glass in it.

@millervintagehifi3034 I've got 2 828s and they're both the same thing. Looks plastic to me so I don't know
