Jayasuriya & Sangakkara slammed 29 off back to back McGrath & Watson overs in 2007 World Cup Final

Glenn McGrath was hit for mesmerising 6,4,4 by Sangakkara to sum up the run feast. Chasing Australia's mammoth 284 in 38 Overs, Sri Lanka was struggling to dispatch Australian bowlers in the first few overs of the Power Play. Jayasuriya and Sangakkara reached 53/1 at the end of 12 overs and Shane Watson was brought in to the attack. The pair added 13 off Watson before taking McGrath to the cleaners in the very next over.

Sri Lanka could have won the final but due to bad light the match was stopped. I remember the incident . ICC could have postponed the match to next reserved day as it was done in 2019 semi final. But due to bad decision from ICC Australian won the final. But this srilankan team was on their prime form . I really loved the legends ....... Love from India 🇮🇳

Bro sqash ball is not an cricketing instrument..Not designed that way to help the batters..Even George Bailey tried it against England thinking of Gilchrist's century in mind but failed misrebly as it was difficult to grip the bat..It was coach's idea who insisted him to use the ball..He tried it against SA in semis but didn't work..Fortunately it was Gilly's day and Srilanka's bad day otherwise the squash ball thing would have gone another way.

@@akiladesilva7422 Bro I am not saying that Gilchrist did the right thing..But Australian victory was not due to the squash ball..When Gilchrist got out at that time also he was having squash ball in the gloves but the timing and judgement was not perfect .Even if Sanath Jaysuriya would have squash ball he would have gotten out because there was no contact of the ball with the bat..Australia was a very difficult team to beat in finals in those days..During 1999 pak,2003 India ,2007 Srilanka all opponents were badly thrashed but Srilanka tried to fight back but crumbled badly after loss of Sanath and Sangakkara..

Actually, RSA and NZ were bigger favourites as per analysts in the build up to the 2007 WC. Australia prior to the start of the tournament lost 5 of it's 6 ODIs, including an instance where NZ chased 350 set by the Australians. But RSA proved to be chokers as usual, beaten by bangladesh and almost beaten by SL during round 2 and absolutely demolished by Australia in the SF. NZ too got outplayed by the Australians in Round 2 and the Sri Lankans in the SF.

The solution that made SL the 96 WC champ also had become the problem during 2003 & 2007 WC & i. e. They did not had the same replacement firepower in this line up like they did not have the same lethal ruthless sanath or any replacement then they did not had the likes of young Aravinda , Ranatunga & that were the reasons they could not rip this aussie but during 2011 WC everything was entirely a balanced one.

That was y so called Gilchrist has cheated to take the victory otherwise they wouldn't have scored that amount of score. Anyway on that day everything went bad for us as we had to play with rain, with dark light as well so it made more easier win for the Cheaters....
