As one in recovery as well - this is my favorite addict musician. I know there are many - but she spent time in a damn concentration camp on account of that. Salute.

Wow,that was nice--first time seeing a film clip of Snow singing and playing---I watched this because I really like her version of Duke Ellington's "Caravan", which she also played trumpet on---that's definitely worth listening to!

+rainmaker690 Forgo to say I liked her dress,too---it's ver cute. A real shame she isn't known better outside of jazz circles.

She is so into the beat with her heels on the stairs just before the trumpet solo.

Wow, I didn’t know jazz music featured the accordion pre-1950-at least in recordings. Leon Sash, Art Van Damme, Pete Jolly all came after this.

It's so unfortunate that at this time, for some reason, all the musicians were lip syncing themselves. Nevertheless, Valaida Snow is one of the most inspiring musicians and persons! She'd survived Nazi occupied Denmark, when she was imprisoned by the Nazi police in Copenhagen under some suspicious allegations. Fortunately for Ms. Snow, she had some connections and was subsequently released from prison as part of a prison exchange agreement, between the Nazis and the US. Eventually Ms. Snow made her career comeback in the US. And enjoyed, from what I understand, enough success to where she could live comfortably, until she'd passed away, due to some type of hemorrhage, backstage of the Palace Theater in New York City, at the premature age of 51.

It was announced some years ago that Diana Ross would do Valaida"s biopic, but sadly it never came to fruition.

I wonder if they are performing to a recording. There are several instances where she is playing the trumpet but the sounds aren't in sync. Especially noticeable is the end of the first trumpet solo where she takes the trumpet away from her mouth, but the trumpet sound continues (1'48"-ish).

This upload is mirror imaged, so it must be from an original filmcopy to fit a "Soundie" machine.
