4:30 or so. I literally never driven a manual, 18 years old, meet up with a seller of a 83' 944 at a Kroger. Bought a 944 and thought to myself after buying, no test drive before meeting, gave thousands to a guy I've never met, had a friend drive me to said Kroger thinking, I'm getting my new Porsche home... It was half way between seller and me, easily 20 miles. Again I've never driven a manual, being young and dumb, have never used a towing company, said this is coming home. I learned to drive a manual with a little hello from p.o/seller and got my 944 home about 45 minutes later in rush hour. Great memories, I love these cars, maybe I got lucky to learn a manual quickly before screwing up the clutch. Got a 944 turbo a few years later and have owned 8 Porsche's (4 were auto though, Cayenne's) . Can't wait to find a super clean 944 turbo or 968 to have in the future

As an American we are used to horsepower. With a 944 you have to keep the revs up. That is where the fun is. Find a curvy road and enjoy. It's not a line car. Each car has its purpose. I've got the same affliction. I even had a 911 first but I still have more of a soft spot for the 924/944 than the 911. When I was in my teens I lucked up on an early 924T with like 40k miles on it for next to nothing. It was gunmetal grey with black interior and the sunroof. However the check valve on the oil feed to the turbo was stuck so if I took a left turn too quickly it would dump oil into the turbo and fumigate the street, the houses, the people within a block of my car with thick black smoke. That little car handled like it was on rails and was surprisingly very quick. I may be mistaken but I'd always been told that at the time of release the 924 was the best handling (skidpad) production Porsche ever made. Can anyone confirm or refute that?

I still have all my Auto Trader clippings from back in the day (1983-'85) mounted in a scrap book. But they are of 1982-'85 Camaro Z28's & IROC's. Great video!

My grandparents were thinking to give me their 86 944 in metallic burgundy... but I don’t have enough space for a 5th car. This video kills me because it’s got like no miles on it and they keep it on carpet

Great to look at and great fun to drive. Not so great to own. Had one and sold it. No regrets.

I own two Porsche 944s. Best purchases I have ever made. Porsche, there is no substitute. Porsche is the ultimate in German engineering.

Craig Blake The car just makes sense when you work on it. Everything is engineered well. Simple car to work on.

944 and 924s were built by germans in Audi factory at Neckarsulm. 911s were built by italians in Stuttgart. We have had 2 white 944 '84 cars for twenty years, still smile at them. Wife's car stays on the drive all year, used regularly, mine is garaged and still has original cills. They need to be run regularly or the head gaskets fall to pieces.

THE greatest 944 story I've ever heard. This has inspired me to finally pull the trigger on my own 944...I must have one!!

Great video. It is the best classic Porsche. I owne mine for 3,5 years now. And I’m still excited. Wouldn’t trade it in for an 911.

I had a bright red 87' 944. I bought it when I was 23. I loved that car. Picked up a rack of chicks with it and people tried hating. Its probably because it was their chicks I was scooping up. All I had to say was "I have a Porsche" and folks would smirk and say things like "Did YOU buy that Porsche?!?" I'd laugh and respond "YES! Pocket change! GOML". Mean while, it had something like 140,000 miles and was missing a third pedal. The value of them were at a all time low back then but still in alright condition. I've had tons of cars but like you said, the Porsche 944 is a car I'd love to own again... but with a turbo or V8. 👍
