There is a little known fact about us in Alaska, We have a huge car culture up here. Thanks for driving through! And yes you nade a good call on respecting the truckers on the haul road, because they could have made your lives extremely difficult.
@pavementsailor Жыл бұрын
Your description of the Haul Road is spot on. Went up there with enclosed auto transporter retrieving Audi test vehicles in May about 8 years ago. We were among the last trucks to make it out before the snow melt washed out the road. Glad I did it. Don't want to do it again. You told it well.

My girlfriend and I just got back from a 3500 mile run from AL to Colorado in my Jeep. We did multiple trails including a run up Mt Antero where we had to turn around at 13,200 due to rain and sleet. This included a wicked shelf road where we were about 18 inches from a 1000 foot drop. It was intense. The trip was fantastic. My first real road trip in decades. I am 65 and my girlfriend is 60. Never stop experiencing adventure. It’s what keeps us young.

I can’t agree more to go out and do stuff! There’s so much out there to see and minimal time to see it all! Beginning of July this year. I drove my Lexus from Indiana to Tuktoyaktuk, Nortwest Territories. 4k miles one way. One great adventure to the top of the world! Coincidentally I drove south back into the US and spent a day in Colombia Falls,MT but didn’t know about SWAE then! The LS was a tank on the off Road section (Dempster hwy) only needed a new windshield now! I saw the most amount wildlife on this trip aswell. Was seeing bears every 5 minutes on the road at one point! Plenty of moose and Bison! We were gone 12 days and the LS was running for 7.6 days! All with 200k miles! Great trip Ed! Wish I had the extra time to visit Alaska, that just means I have to go back!

The part about the northern lights brought back a good memory. I was flying from Stockholm to Düsseldorf one night and the pilot announced the northern lights were out the starboard windows. They look totally amazing from 30,000 feet and no pollution from man! Will never forget that sight.

Thanks Ed. I always wondwred how they make the ice roada up north. My cousin lives a few miles from the south end pf The Dalton, and has driven it twice a month, die to his position on his company. Wife and I have been up to visit, and one of those trios up, we rode up with him, in the winter, and my daughter and I rode the the dual sports up with jom and jis wife, as part of a road trip she requested as her graduation gift. Wanted to see Alaska with me, taking the truck that we built, towing DH capable bikes. It came with a camper of about the same age, that we negotiated into the deal. Truck bed camper. Cousin's wife srive thar, we rode, daughter an me switching off with them. Even slipped in some fishing, as they are also licensed guides. Doesn't matter when you fet up there, it's a gorgeous state, with some amazing animals as well.

I took a solo trip last April from Calgary to San Diego in my 2010 Mazda 3. It was amazing. Did a straight run there in 24hrs taking note of what I wanted to see on the way back. My goal was to escape the canadian winter and swim in the southern Californian ocean (60 degrees and raining when I got there). Kind of the reverse of your trip. I took 5 days on the way back. I live an hour from Banff and forget how lucky I am but driving through Arizona was equally spectacular to me. It literally brought me to tears to have an opportunity to see such amazing scenery (the whole trip was a bday gift from my wife). I completely agree that people should just hit the road and enjoy themselves. I hope to do a run to the arctic but want to drive to Tuktoyaktuk on the the new all season road that heads all the way to the Ocean.

You don't have to do the whole Panamerican highway for a series. 'Just Mexico' would be interesting enough for a series like this. There's a lot of Mexico people haven't seen, has been not so well explored. Maybe do Guatemala or a bit of central America if you want to get some border crossing content.
