A little something I found that worked well for me. When cutting down the width of long pieces of siding I used either left or right aviation snips. I am right handed and I found that when using the "left snips" (cutting from right to left on the work area) and "rolling" the snips away from the cut off made it very easy to cut along the line and avoid the binding issue of straight snips. It would be left to right when using the "right snips". It worked for me hopefully it can help others. Now that my shed build is done and all siding installed I want to say thank you for your videos. I had never installed vinyl siding previously and I truly believe I would not have been able to without your videos. I learned allot here and along the way of my build!

Vinyl is Final Was a saying back in the day when I used to do siding. They have come along way with options since. I have laid plenty of certain teed vinyl siding many years ago.

I just started taking a look at repairing/replacing the siding on my house myself, and this was one of the most informative, detailed and precise video installations I've seen yet. Those planks look great!

‘With that being said’ LOL😅 it’s good to see you in another video. I’m done with my siding but enjoy watching/learning yours. This time the pop riveted corner detail was nice. Keep up the good work.

Good job on your vinyl siding have you ever thought about bending a piece of metal for over top the garage door and entry doors for a drip edge, when I was installing siding the inspectors would turn us down unless we had a flashing/drip edge. Thanks for the videos
@TheExcellentLaborer9 ай бұрын
I flashed the door using flashing tape as I showed in the this video kzbin.info/www/bejne/one0k5ZtodmMbMksi=zEXs8X-L26q4y1So . Thanks for watching!
@plumbbuild65179 ай бұрын
@@TheExcellentLaborer I understand that you installed flashing tape , but like I had mentioned the inspectors were I use to install made us install a drip edge, we would make it 4” high and turn out the width plus an 1/8 to a 1/4 and then about a 45 degree down 1/2 inch , the inspectors wanted to see a rain drip edge on every opening.

Thank you for doing these videos they are very thorough and informative I really appreciate them. I have a question for you. Where did you get the electrical box that you mounted under the mounting block? I couldn’t find a link in this video or your wiring your garage video.

I’m installing vinyl siding on my home and I’m loving it! I really like working with it even with my bad back and sore legs at 60 years old…lol My home is over hundred years old in stucco. Altogether stucco/cinderblock/plaster my walls are about 6 inches thick or so. Not insulated in the slightest so I’m insulating the outside with half inch green board foam. That’s just a quick note on that. It’s a double home and in between my neighbors and my front door I put up two furring strips and the insulated board and to opposing Jay channels which has approximately 7” between them. I kind of forgot to put furring strip down the middle so I could nail the little pieces of siding ( double Dutch lap 4 1/2 Panels ) So, my question is without getting into cutting the insulation and fitting a furring strip in there, I put a little adhesive behind the panel along the slots …? I know that you’re supposed to be able to allow for expansion/contraction of the material but the pieces are so short , should I be concerned about that ..? OR … since the pieces are so short in length, how about no adhesive, no nailing , just snapping them together ? OR … Use heavy fishing line past through the slots and pulled up and nail in the end of the string up above the door and covered with full panels….? Thanks for your video I’m learning a lot…👍🏼🙂

Josh why again do you remove vinyl in the overlap area? Isn't this siding designed to install w/o adding all that work?
@ThomasChmielewskiIII9 ай бұрын
Hey Josh, love the build your own house plan. Curious - i don’t believe you are a licensed plumber, electrician, or hvac. When you build your house, do all your own work, as long as it passes code/inspection… you are good to go to sell to the public? I know every area will be different, but im about to go this route in the next 12 months. Thansk in advance, love the channel.
@TheExcellentLaborer9 ай бұрын
Hey Thomas! I wish you luck with your endeavor you are wanting to do. In my jurisdiction, we can build our own houses and do all of the trade work as long as it is inspected. Yes, we then can sell the house after it has passed all inspections. You are right, every jurisdiction is different, so it is best to talk to your local jurisdiction and see the details. I hope that helps! Thanks a lot for watching, and I appreciate it!
@plumbbuild65179 ай бұрын
We can build houses in our jurisdiction aswell but good luck getting a loan from the bank if you’re not a contractor 😅 I’ve built several houses here but mostly for customers

I hear that. From what I hear, a Heloc is a good way to go, so you’re not waiting on the banks to pay for the next phase. Ultimately, My plan is to get to the point, where I don’t need the banks. @@plumbbuild6517

I don't understand how you secured the last piece of siding towards the top. It appears as if you just pushed it up there. We get some nasty winds where I live, so I don't see that working here. Please explain
