i still think that Colin mcrae rally 2.0 was one of the best also the early ones had pretty fun cheats aswell like cmr 2 had fireballs that sent opponents to the shadow realm cmr3 had a freaking JET etc

Damn i still remember playing Colin McRae 2.0 on my dad's lap and trying to beat his times on the stages. That's how I fell In love with the Ford Focus, by playing then looking out from my window and seeing my dad's Focus parked outside. Great Times

These games are my childhood. Played every single entry of the franchise and loved them all. My all time favourite is CMR 2.0 but gotta give props to the inmersion of 2003, the cutscenes before every rally, the damage, and the super special stages were great

Thank you Collin for bringing all these amazing Rally games in my childhood. I had all of them, I was a huge rally fan especially of the ford focus and Mitsubishi lancer, probably one of the reasons I played rally all the time. Back then everything seemed realistic, we didn’t have a care in the world about physics! Unfortunately, I dropped the series on the release of Dirt Rally 1.0. Have not even played 2.0.

Ah Colin McRae Rally 2005, tho it's a shame that it's one of the weaker titles as you mentioned, but that game was my jam back in fifth grade. I remember when me and my dad were playing this game together, he was the driver while I was the one who would set up and repair his car before each stage and I would also be the one to unlock upgrades for the car. We were really bonding together back then. When it was time for me to play the game myself, I played it religiously and only during weekends since my mom was pretty strict with school. And it also introduced me into the world of Rallying and how much of a thrilling and daring sport it is. Lastly, it also teached me how to brake before turns and other things which helped me in other racing games. Man, those were some good times.

Thank you for covering this! CMR04 was my childhood, but let me tell you, spooky PS2 intros and equally spooky (in my mind back then) Codemasters intros... had negative effects on 9 year old me, to say the least.

I remember playing these games on a PC using only the arrow keys for controls. I thought the physics were perfect for a game that I can play like that. I was also like 10 years old. But the games played excellently on an average family pc. Some of my best memories. Dirt was never the same. Dirt 1/2 came close, but never captured the magic. The car liveries were all different and it was so much more about x-games than WRC

Are the DiRT titles on the table next? I would also be curious to know your thoughts on the WRC titles released on PS2, which were developed by Evolution Studios (and, sadly, only the first of those games were ever released here in the U.S.).

WRC: Rally Evolved is one of the very best rally games ever made! It has some details and features never found in any other rally game .. It has a proper feel of surfaces and no soap effect on tarmac! Some stages have dynamic variations as half closed fence doors, hay bales, broken vehicles standing beside the track, broken guardrails on tight corners and also things like falling rocks. Even the damned spectators go aside if you drive towards them! A feature i very miss in newer games ..

Moving spectators.. Imagine it! You brake a little too late and came a liiiittle bit out of the corner.. And the spectators just jump out of your way.. No 'reset to track', no penalty because of stupid people standing at the outside of a corner.. Woooosh!

CMR2 featured the most exciting rally stages I ever played. Italian rally where you could dive deep on the inside of the turns was a real blast that I never quite felt ever again.

It still scares me that both Colin McRae and Richard Burns died after the success of the games named after them. Burns died from a serious illness back in '05 right after he helped developing his game, McRae followed suit in '07 after a heli crash in Scotland just as the OG DiRT game came out, explaining why Codemasters had to stop using his name after DiRT 2.

One mistake I'd like to point out: At 8:17 you said that the Group B and other old cars were introduced for the first time in CMR2.0. This is not actually true. The original CMR featured Ford RS200 and Audi Quattro as bonus cars. Ford Escort mk2 and Lancia Delta HF were also included. You can unlock these cars by defeating your opponent in the Super Special Stage. You get one at the end of every two rallies in championship mode. (Greece, Australia, Sweden and UK if I recall correctly) Once unlocked, you can only use these cars in time trial mode. Edit: Especially the RS200 was crazy fast in the game.

Viper, Colin McRae Rally 2005 for polish release offers 4 co-pilots - Leszek Kuzaj (official polish co-pilot), Nicky Grist (english pilot), polish system-based co-pilot and - what's kinda weird and funny - a REAL blonde I am used to real blonde voice, even if she's slow, can make mistakes and do some weird stuff like answering phone, suggesting her friend as a co-pilot or asking about the noise

Awesome review ! I remember testing the old Colin Mcrae and I was so surprised by the soap effect! Didn't remember it was like that in my memories ! I spent so many hours on the 1-2-3 episodes back in the day. I hope you will do a retro video about the game that started all the rally stuff on 3d... V-Rally ! 😁 It probably didn't age well but back in the day when you had a ps1, V-Rally was a must have if you were a rally fan. First rally game like that. I have to say, there was a PSP version of CMR 2005 and it was (nearly exactly) the same game as the console ones. And it pushed the mighty PSP to the real limit. Sometimes i can't get how powerful PSP was back in the day when the PS3 wasn't even released. I mean, it could basically run a PS2 game just with low resoultion!

Sadly i can't play no more the 2.0 but it stills holding a place on my childhood memories.
