Hi Nancy! Thanks for this video. I have been teaching for a month and am having a hard time filling slots with MCs. It's mostly trial classes that students tend not to show up for. So I was getting very discouraged and considered giving up. Thank you for giving me hope that it will get better! I am going to stick it out thanks to you.

Happy dance!!! Wahoo Emily:) Trial classes are not easy to teach..... I always feel like I exert 10x as much energy because it is so new for the student and you want them to have a great experience. You will experience a wide variety in teaching them from awesome to the no shows... I promise if you stick with it for another month you will start seeing more and more MC classes! The nice thing about trial classes is that they can fill your schedule in the mean time! Lucky to have that!!! Keep up the great work & this comment made my day! Thank you:)

I love your videos they are so helpful! Will you please do a video with tips on time management, I am struggling with managing my time in my lesson mainly because I don't know when to move on from a slide if a student doesn't understand it. Help!? :)
@NancyTaylor7 жыл бұрын
Su! Great suggestion for a future video! Thank you for your input! My suggestion for now is to make a goal to spend 1 minute or less per slide. If you spend extra time on a concept that the student isn't understanding or understands really well and is explaining and showing higher level thinking skills then adjust the time you spend on the repeat/review of that concept. With my higher students I will skip the review slide and teach the grammar/new content and then go back to the review slide if there is time. They may not understand every slide at the end of the lesson, but that is the beauty of the built in reviews! They may not get it day one, but they will get it! Time and practice are huge helps as well! You will only get better!

Ooh! I've got a question!! Being an "independent contractor" and the dreaded TAXES!! Is there a a secret as to how much you should work to still be profitable before the government takes half your money?! All I know about IC's is that you get screwed. True or false? (p.s thanks for all your hard work in these tutorials!!)
@NancyTaylor7 жыл бұрын
Jessica! Great question! I have yet to live through a tax season, and will better be able to address your question once summer hits. Starting my second year I will send in estimated amounts quarterly so that it isn't a huge shock at the end. My first year shouldn't be too bad because I wasn't teaching as many hours in the spring and summer of last year. We will see.... in due time! I do not know what the ideal amount of time to teach would be. Definitely a valid concern!

@NancyTaylor7 жыл бұрын
DeeAnne! I would be more worried about hitting the objectives, TPR, animation, high energy, simple sentences (level 1), speed of speech, props and your instruction rather than the timing. For timing purposes you can do 3/5 words on the review slides and keep the class moving, just be sure that you aren't so focused on it that you miss all of the other points:) You are going to do great!!! Best of luck!

Linda! I film these videos with a separate handheld camera (canon G7X Powershot) because there is more storage on it than my laptop and they do create good videos. Sarah! I had to google an internet speed test because I had no idea what mine was:) It came to about 10 megabits per second. Is that what you were referring to?... Also, I'm hoping to transition from being a full-time teacher to a VIPKID teacher in the near future once my husband and I have a baby. I'm wondering how this works with an infant at home. My first thought is what happens if you're in the middle of a lesson and your baby cries? Is it impossible to do this and be the only one home with the baby? Any tips for balancing the two would be oh so appreciated! Thank you so much in advance!

I have 2 questions, I just got hired and had my account activated last night & I have 12 bookings already :) but I would like to get my powerpoints ahead of time so I can look at them and prepare my props. Where can I get them? I'm a little confused with all these different logins, my app on my phone, my Vipkid portal, and whats a freshdesk,? Last question on the top of my portal it says my number is 5, what does that mean?
@NancyTaylor7 жыл бұрын
Olivia! You can only look at the PPT 24 hours before the class. There is no single location to locate all of the powerpoints. The app on your phone is great to check your schedule. Freshdesk has forums and the weekly announcements and your teacher portal is where you go to teach. 5 is the number of classes that were taught in the first week. You want to beat that number this week. It is part of the April teaching incentive. They do a new one each month! Happy teaching! Great work!!

You can go into your classrooms and practice. I would just log in the night before and practice. Question - I did my mock class 2 yesterday and still haven't gotten results. I got results for mock class 1 within 15 minutes and I'm kind of freaking out that they don't want me or they would've emailed by now because you only have two days to sign the contract and upload your teacher video... Is it safe to assume they don't want me??

Not so fast Kaylee! The mock 2 is often reviewed by multiple teachers so I would just wait it out and see what happens! I hope that it is good news for you:)

Saturday and Sunday 9:00 am-10 pm you can open slots to have students book. This is through the middle of the night if you are in the states:)

Check the weekly announcements because they stopped using it for a bit, but I saw it reintroduced. That is your best source for up to date info!
