It’s all relative, though. In UK terms, arguably they are. But having lived in France, Spain and Italy the people down there tend to warmer/friendlier imo. It’s a bit of a myth that the further north you go in the UK, the friendlier the people get. Moreover, the flip side of this ‘friendliness’ is that it can suddenly become very tribal if you don’t ‘fit in’. I have several English friends who tried to settle in Glasgow and they found making friends incredibly difficult. At first, they couldn’t work out why. But it was being English and not having the requisite accent.

I'm a Sunderland fan born and bred myself, but my uncle lives in Glasgow and his in-laws are green and white. A good few years back now, when i was a kid, we played Celtic pre-season and my uncle offered me and my dad tickets at Celtic Park but in the home end. Best laugh we've ever had at a football match, we ended up winning 2-1 but the green brigade were just an absolute great laugh, and made me safe as a kid in what could've been a pretty hostile environment
