In 1993 VS released the album life among the ruins that contains a few sensational ballads, last rose of summer is the last song on the album, david defeis is a great vocalist and a great composer, this song is a good example for his high vocals, i don't know why but i believe that david was in a romantic mood when he wrote the ballads for that album, thanks for sharing.

This is the last song on their records I can think of where Dave used this very high, soft falsetto throughout...I love all the VS albums after this so deeply too, but this song feels like the last breath of the 80s romanticism! cheesy but I can never bring myself to dislike the passion he puts into this kind of material even tho I'm more of a metalhead at heart

Virgin Steele is one of my all time favorite bands, I like Defeis a lot, but the truth is he's all studio, he never performed as well live where other top-notch singers (Rob Halford, Eric Adams etc) could reproduce live pretty much anything they recorded...

@Debiruman1666 sorry to say it, but you talk crap!! When i saw Defeis live back in 2004, he was awesome, then i saw him again live in 2011 and it's true that he sucks! Unfortunately there are no live videos of him in KZbin between the years 2002 and 2010, so that we can see when his voice started to become horrible! All his live videos that i have seen in youtube between 1984 and 2002, are very good and all the performances from 2010 till today, unfortunately sucks...and btw since you mentioned Rob Halford, although he is my all time favorite singer, there are many videos of him not singing so well and i am not talking about now that he is very old...check his performance in Victim Of Changes from the tour of '82...it's like hearing a drunk bitch

Based on those recordings and some posts on their website I think he lost it due to medical problems somewhere around 2005, but I sadly can't be 100% sure since I cannot find recordings from that year anywhere.

Bhè dai, ci sono canzoni piu belle di MOTW. Sopratutto nei primi album. Peccato che ultimamente non hanno avuto buoni risultati, cosa dovuta sopratutto alla scarsa qualità di Worriors of the world, Leggermente meglio Son of Odin. Ma album distanti anni luce da Into glory raid, Kings of metal, Battle Hymn. Hanno comunque un gran cantante che secondo me è la chicca del gruppo. Sono piu mainscreen dei Virgin steele, ma solo per alcune mosse azzeccate a livello di marketing.
