This video really changed the way I sing! I have struggled with soft palate control for a while, but these techniques to practice flexing and relaxing the muscle have helped me profoundly.

thank you so much for this video! I think it will really be a game changer for me. and in looking at the comments before, I think a lot of others have had the same experience. I checked out a couple of the breath support videos of yours, and they also look really helpful. good job!

Thank you for taking the time and showing us this tip. It really helped alot. However every-time i try to sing with softpalate raised i feel like it feels harder to pronounciate words properly as there is more distance between jaw.

First time I've seen/heard you Arden. Very interesting and fresh approach. I am not a vocalist - would like to be but have not sung since my pre-puberty church choir soprano days. Always wished I could mimic Roy Orbison, my fav. male singer. I once heard a Roy impersonator and he said it all comes from singing way down at the diaphragm level, not the throat. Does this video about opening and stretching the soft palate result in the same thing or are these two different skills a talented singer has to develop? I am also a long time senior and they tell me my vocal chords get more brittle with age so I should forget the high frequencies. True?

Raising the soft palate and too much compression has been my biggest challenges. Are they related? I live in the south and twang comes with the package (think twangy country music and especially bluegrass which is not my choice of music except for the bluesier styles, such as Chris Stapleton) not only when we sing but also a part of the speech. I will work on this. I heard other coaches speak of this but it seems each coach has a different approach and/or a way of describing the challenge that it can be it bit confusing.

Hi Ms. Kaywin, I’ve heard that we need nasal resonance to be able to get mixed voice and raising the soft palate eliminates the nasal passage. Is that correct? And what to do?
