This is from a competition for famous Opera Singers in Russia. Dimash was invited by Sundet to sing with him. This was before the Singer show in China. A few years later, Dimash would win the Classical Singer of the Year in Russia, for Olympico.

This performance was made before Dimash joined "I am singer" competition in China back in 2017. So this makes it a treasure, to see and listen to him long before he becamw worldknown.

🙏 j'apprécie votre lecture de cette pièce. L'histoire derrière ce morceau est celle écrite par Victor Hugo : "Notre Dame de Paris" (1831). Victor Hugo a écrit là une oeuvre romanesque historique, vantant la valeur du bien contre le mal, et la pureté de l'amour. Le personnage de ce morceau est un homme mûr pris dans les affres de l'amour. Le projet de Victor Hugo était de rendre hommage et de financer la restauration du monument qu'est la cathédrale de Paris, qui a l'époque était délabrée. On dit qu'il l'a sauvé. Aujourd hui il faut encore la sauver puisqu'en 2019 un incendie a détruit une partie de sa toiture. Beaucoup de français ont envoyé massivement de l'argent pour sa restauration. Salutations de France

In the original, this was not a duet but a solo. The premise being an internal conflict caused by the love of a woman. This was an interesting reimagining that served to highlight the distinctive differences of these two amazing vocalists. I believe that Sundash had invited Dimash to sing with him on a show. Others could give more details on that part of it. Dimash was quite a bit younger at the time and his lower register was not as developed as it is even now. Interesting interpretation. This song is from a play called Notre Dame de Paris it's about the priest of the church and his lust four Esmeralda the gypsy girl whose friend is Quasimodo that's where the reference to the petticoat comes from but it's a great crossover isn't it?

This is a song from the musical “Notre Dame de Paris”. The lyrics are by Luc Plamondon. He also wrote SOS d'un terrien en detresse. This performance took place on in Moscow at the show "Big Opera“ November 13, 2016… and the solo became a crossover duet. (Frollo, the priest struggles with himself. The devotion for the church or the obsession for Esmeralda ... it tears him apart and he kills the other self.) Sundet Baigozhin is an internationally known opera singer from Kazakhstan (participant and winner of the competition as a representative of Kazakhstan) or as Dimash (here 22 ys) calls him, the golden voice of Kazakhstan and his brother. Sundat invited Dimash to sing this duet with him. It was listed outside of the rating and made a great impression. It was around this time that Dimash decided goes his own way to open up a new world of musical activity, not the Kazakh opera world. This is from the Musical of the Hunchback of Notre Dame, and is sung solo by the priest who had fallen for the leading lady. Quasimodo had a more gentle and loving crush on her; she runs off with adifferent man entirely. So this lament is more poignant when we realize a preist is in torment because his vow of celibacy is in shreds due to lust of the flesh that he has no strength or even an clue how to fight. That it's offered as a duet is very fascnianting, and brilliant. Anotehr reactor explained that the duel scneario and the painting of a duel refers to a different musical with a duel featured, name forgotten, sorry. Also that Dimash plays the part of the lover the girl wants, as Sundet plays the priest, sine the priest dies in the Hunchback novel and play/musical. Echoes of Christine and Raul fleeing from the Phantom of the Opera, as Eric [the Phantom] shows he loves her more by letting her choose and run way with her chosen. Dimash would kill the entire Phantom of the Opera Soundtrack, he can sing every part himself! You’re probably just a little younger than me, so maybe you also grew up watching the animated The Hunchback of Notre Dame - or at least have seen it? In a super oversimplified way, that movie was based on this play, and this song could be the classier, less child-traumatizing “Hellfire” LOL. Creepy-ass Frollo at war with himself and his “spirituality” because of his obsession with the gypsy (“little illusions dealer”) Esmeralda.

You're kind of sort of right but you're wrong. Since this was originally a solo in an opera it's about one man's conflict between his head and his heart. Guess which won.
