'Notre Dame de Paris' is one of the the most successful musicals of all time. This song originally appeared in that musical as a solo, but has been transformed in this video into a dueling duet between Dimash Kudaibergen and Sundet Baigozhin.
Join professional opera singer Elizabeth Zharoff, as she listens to and analyzes "Tu Vas Me Détruire" for the the first time.

Hi. I love this duet. Sundet has a warm, rich tone that I absolutely adore. I hope Dimash will sing with Sundet again at some point since that would just be epic in my opinion. (As for the sound issue I think it is just your version of the video. I have one without subtitles and there the sound is perfectly synched. Since this took place during a televised competion Sundet participated in I doubt very much they allowed lip synching.)

@@shanialover I think the slave video is OK. Regarding newest PTX video - it is well done. Although PTX got me started on my choral music journey a number of years ago, I am not finding their music as interesting as before. I am not sure if it’s me or them. I was always a fan of Avi and drove to Vt and watched his last concert in the rain. I attended one PTX concert at the Boston garden and was disappointed in the experience. So once I became a fan of Dimash and happened to go to the London concert when I happened to be in the Netherlands. That year. I thought surly I can get over this fandom it had been so painful. But no! It was so sweet and warm. Partly it was the dears and partly Dimash himself. Then I lost my mind and went to KZ in June when he was in concert at a HUGe stadium in Astana( Nursultan) The stadium was too large but it was a very interesting experience to visit his country and be with fans from everywhere. And then of course in NYC which I could drive to in a smaller stadium. The best was Igors concert in Brooklyn where Dimash sang 4 songs. His voice was as if he was sitting next to you not blocked by drums or anything else! Going to a Dimash concerts with his Dears is like going with family. Last year I went to an Avi concert in Cambridge, MA - standing only venue. Maybe 100 people or so... That was wonderful!! Not over amped.

No, they are not lip-sync, I saw the original. The fact is that after Notre-Dame de Paris burned down, KZbin deleted this video and people made many copies for other sites, a lot of editing was done with the sound being out of sync. The original performance is from a concert which was part of an opera singers competition, therefore live singing was mandatory.

The opening solo by Sundet reminded me of Thomas Hampson's performance of "Sois Immobile," from Rossini's William Tell. Totally different settings, of course, but, something in Baigozhin's voice, particularly the "cry" of the baritone, instantly brought Hampson to mind. I sang as a baritone, and making my tone brighter was a constant struggle; I knew what I needed to do, from a technical standpoint, but, the instrument just had a mind of its own! Great choice, and great reaction, as always!

I absolutely LOVE this performance with Dimash. It is one of my favorites. I saw it a few years ago & played it every chance I got! It disappeared for so long off of YT! I am so glad it's back. This was a Opera singing contest & Sundet invited Dimash to partner with him that week as it was to do a duet. This has got to be some sort of an edited version & the vocals not lining up. I saw the original performance that was taken down and it was not misaligned vocally at all, they were literally singing this.

Hello, Elizabeth 🌹 It is a competition of Great Opera, Moscow 2016 episode 6. Sundet Baygozin had to perform in unusual role and with unusual repertoire, to go beyond the operatic genre, to surprise themselves, their colleagues and viewers. And of course who could of feel the bill 🤣 As you understand it couldn't be pre-recorded. I think it was a terrible work on editing. Thank you 😊❤️

Wow, those two voices together are like all my Christmases come at once! 😍 I have to admit, though, at my first glimpse of the gun paired with those costumes, my brain didn't process it correctly at first and thought I was looking at a magic wand. Спасибо за реакцию...Отличный анализ. Dimash + Alisher "Ai-Karakoz"..

This was live. It was a competition Sundet (Soondet) was in and it was either a requirement of the competiton to sing a duet to see how he performs with another artist, or his choice to show his capability singing along with someone and he invited Dimash to perform with him. Some of these videos I find when one stops and starts, they lose sync.

I love this performance. Nerd all you want! That's what we're here for. :D Just a comment on the section they sing in unison: My feeling is that Dimash's poppy vocals was a conscious choice because they make such a contrast to Sundet's low notes. They also add a sobbing, wailing feel to this section that I think really ads to the heighteing tension of the confrontation. Wonderful stuff. You may already know this, but Dimash was actually offered a position at the Astana opera. I could understand that he would want the opportunity to explore voice and performance beyond opera, and if he had chosen that path, we wouldn't be here now geeking out about his voice. Because of this, I am grateful that he chose a different path while at the same time hoping that he will one day record an album of classical duets.

I have always liked this performance by both men, and you have enlightened me with your mentioning of the other opera's duel scene. I had search and watched videos of the original production and that caused me some confusion as to the staging of the song as a duel; however in re-watching the scene with you and that insight I now see what the producer's/artists were trying to achieve. The song is a battle of the reason (church rules) performed by Sundet and the passion (youthful lust) Dimash within the mind of Frollo, thus we are literally witnessing the mental destruction of Frollo as the virtuous Archdeacon as he submits to temptation.
