Visaton FR8's demonstration

My name is Peter Warren in Sydney Australia. I love loudspeaker restoring and during the pandemic I began designing and building my own speakers. They are simple and involved cutting and gluing wood which I find awesome fun. To listen to your own hifi speaker builds is so satisfying. Its amazing how good these new modern full range drivers sound.
I am particularly pleased with how these Visaton FR8 speakers worked out. They sound great with good bass and detailed top end. OK they won't do thrash metal heavy rock etc but great for low volume desktop applications or a little gaming. I sold this first pair very quick but I have another two sets coming. Almost ready to glue up. Hit me up if you're interested for delivery in Australia. Not experienced with OS delivery but if someone wants them badly we can work something out.
This channel is also to help these going down the FR rabbit hole. These drivers were only about $12 aussie dollars (c. $9 US) each and I got free delivery over $60 for a batch of 6. Cause I've mailed these already I didn't really get a chance to AB them with other speakers and I don't have a measurement microphone yet. My initial impression is they still need breaking in , but they have more top end than the SB's. The SB's were my favourites as they had a rolled off top end, but when I had only one Visaton working as one channel and the SB's on the right channel, I noticed the Visatons had more clarity on cymbals etc. a bit airier. Which I liked. They could be a bit bright depending on the track, but with break-in this might settle down.
I bought them from Element14. I don't get any commission from them. They took 3 months to arrive via UK believe it or not cause they were out of stock here. The wait was annoying, but other projects filled the gap.
I love these cabinets. The front baffles especially which I rescued off the footpath. Beautiful timber and very hard. It machines so well. The pine sides and tops also have some nice grain and knots. Also rescued from the footpath. I found the pine a bit harder to rout because of the course grain. It tears and is messy to drill and countersink too. Maple would be an easier timber to work. Or even birch ply. Birch ply is quite expensive here. Free timber is way cheaper. :-)

PS I've started work on a design for 2" Full Ranges and a cabinet cut using a laser cutter/engraver at my woodwork club. It could be the basis for a kit speaker for teens just getting into hifi. Pls comment if you're interested in this idea.

Es gibt auch bessere fullrange chassis. Fostex fe 106 oder ff125wk Schaut mal le petite.
