Well in fact, it was a compound system, the first of the three turbo,s each engines had where to feed the other ones with a low pressure to reduce lag so both engines were synched performance wise.

You have found one of my favorite video,s here in the Netherlands. Jan de Rooy is al legend and so is his son, Gerard he was the first with the torpedo Iveco. And that truck is epic too. The Dutch dakar truck teams are awesome!

And it happened, one of these beasts had a terrible crash at high speed, the image of the pieces spread through the desert was hard to see.

@@noidelpenjoi6351with very few changes they could of kept going no problem. Litterally all they had to do was reinforce the passenger seats to equal specs of the driver seat

Kamaz is amazing idd, but it all changed after the speedcap 140 km/h.. the DAF reached 240 km/h.

Have always been in awe of these badass brutes. I've always imagined what it'd be like if the Americans entered a fully custom built Peterbilt or Kensworth in Dhakar. Would've been totally rad! I'm a big fan of that body style over these with the flat front end.

I am lucky to be in close proximity to the museum, and have seen these amazing machines up close many times. KaMAZ and redbull dont rule dakar, DAF rules it!

I wish that I had that truck,jusst a. Few body mods like a old steam engine style cow catcher front bumper and maybe double the fuel capacity and that would be the awesomest bug-out truck

I don't know if it was a factory built Kamaz, but I remember seeing two of them along with a Unimog with a camper/Caravan kinda setup here in India when they were doing a round-the-globe kinda thing in the early 2000s. They were humungous compared to the surrounding local traffic. The Unimog n one of the who were decked in the iconic Camel Trophy livery n one was in the same base colour but without any livery. I always imagined what it'd be like if the Americans had entered a souped up Peterbilt or Kensworth into Dhakar. Like Optimus Prime's desert goin cousin! 🤣

Gruppe B got canceled. The most fantastic cars ever built got made for the class were obsolete immediately. DAF took up the slack and kept the whole thing interesting for years.

Saw these Daf trucks in the Daf museum in Eindhoven. They are some of the most impressive vehicles Ive ever seen and this video doesnt do them justice

Well if the passenger seat was reinforced to the same standard as the driver seat no one would of died. It was nit the speed that killed him. But choosing to o ly give the driver the safety stuff needed to survive a crash.
