Hi, I am new to your channel. But girl, your way to interpret what you saw with your stories and memories in your video is so refreshing to me that I can't find another video in youtube that has done the same. I am a very nostalgic person (I guess we are the same.) Really really love your video and you as a person. Welcome home in China :)

Helen's moved I'm pretty sure because it was open when I was there last year, and WE Coffee is the entrance, the cafeteria is still inside if you go in farther. They also sell Korean food now. I was at Fudan in 2017. This was so interesting to see how it changed from your perspective.

Small fast food shop comes and go all the time in China... Fry chicken was on trend back then, Super Chicken did really good job for surviving that long... Also the government had a campaign on cracking down the “违章建筑” in recent years, a lot of small properties are unauthorized construction, and that's why some of them are gone.

I had lived in those dorms back in 2010 when I was a staff of a high school summer camp held in Fudan. I think back then the dorms were for young college instructors. I remember karaokeing with the students at Wujiaochang until the sun rose on the very last day of the camp. So much nostalgia!

Your life rocks. Judged by the shaking and vibrating movements. I visit Shanghai every year for the past three years. Probably not too many earthquakes. And by the way, Fudan's cafeteria is miserable. You have to go south and eat at Tongji's!

Helen's is still there, they just took down the big sign on the roof. The little supermarket in the main building of the dorm is still there too, the funny little coffee shop is attached to it. The sad closed off section is still sad and closed off. And that cafeteria is still there, it just has that We Coffee place on the side. I'm writing this from my dorm room on the 8th floor!

You need a wide-angle lens to film that tall-and-wide building. Alternatively, you can take still photos of different sections and use software to stitch them together. My final choice would be to use a drone to move backwards over obstacles and take a video that way.
@scottw27316 жыл бұрын
Ms Awesome you are totally awesome and please don't be sad. I know what you feel. Being a native Shanghainese, I had my daycare long gone, primary school still around. high school was a public school but privatized and moved to suburb, my sr middle school was merged and also relocated. My entire childhood is almost wiped out. And I am the lucky guy who still have one school intact coz my wife had nothing left even her university was merged to TongJi University. Shanghai downtown has changed so much that I can barely recognize it.

5:05 random sneeze. 6:46 That ovo graveyard is literally my neighbourhood right now. 8:58 Why would they separate the domestic student housing from international students?
@hongchiliu71136 жыл бұрын
one reason is that Chinese always has thoughts that guest should be treated better, most universities began to build dorm with better condition for international students this years.
@will163206 жыл бұрын
Foreign dorm has separate internet and rules, it is also nicer and more expensive
@binbinl.26456 жыл бұрын
Because domestic students pay $1000 per year for tuition and boarding, which normally has 4 students sharing a room... I guess international students probably want more privacy...

It haunted me....

What the heck? I graduated last year and the FamilyMart close to the hospital was still there. Helen's was still there (that whole street didn't look like this). Stinky tofu place together with fried rice and sushi place were all there and now they are all gone, just after one year?? As a Chinese student I don't understand what's going on either. = =(why no emoji here) Crazy Chicken place was already shut down in 2016 or 2017 I think because it was said that they were gonna take down the whole street and rebuild them into something else, which I have no idea what it's gonna be. The sidewalk from Wujiaochang to the campus wasn't like that last year, it had a bike lane but the sidewalk and the bike lane were separate and now it seems that they've repaved the road with asphalt and they are together? Wanda plaza was exactly like the look in your 2014 footage last year. They still had a couple of stalls and stuff last year in the middle of that spacious area but now it's so empty. Hopson One was built I think in 2015 or 2016 so it's still kinda new. Man, don't say after 4 years, I feel puzzled after just 1 year. Hope all the best to your trip in Shanghai haha.
