The blue plate is for the ordinary gas vehicles and the green one is for "new energy" vehicles like electrical cars, plug-in cars, Tesla, BYD, Roewe, etc. Now the green license for Shanghai is FREE if your car qualifies for "new energy" and you're exempted from the vehicle purchase tax which is around 12%. By contrast, the traditional blue license for Shanghai(沪) is still very expensive (roughly 90,000 RMB for private cars, 140,000 RMB for company vehicles, 0.5 million RMB for city taxi cabs) and difficult to get as the government promotes for public transit by limiting the number of new car licence issued every month. Without a Shanghai(沪) license plate, your vehicle are NOT allowed to use many of the elevated roads in Shanghai during rush hours. A joke says in terms of price per gram, the blue Shanghai license plate is more expensive than gold.

I am from shanghai now as an international student in USA. This video make me so homesick. Shanghai is so unique as the western and local culture blend each other. I love Shanghai! I can’t wait to visit these beautiful streets again. Even just wandering around!

This is literally one of the best Shanghai videos I have watched. Unlike the others are always focusing on the downtown city, this video actually dives into the beauty of daily places.

Just want to say a big thank you. China is always crowed and noisy, and most western media shows the negative side of it. You have a bright heart, always show the positive side and put the bias aside. no wonder why you are such a wonderful girl! and you are beatiful.

Just got back from Shanghai yesterday, and somehow youtube knows how to comfort me by having your video on my home page. I feel exactly same way you do about SH. I can spend days here without getting bored. By just walking the streets of SH. I miss it so much. Thanks for these posts.

Hey ! I am from France and I coming to leave in Shanghai next January for a semester. It feels great to see your videos because to be fair I have no idea about how looks like China. It’s a part of the world I have never been to 😅 so thank you so much for sharing these videos. It gives me a really great view and thanks to you (and all the guides I am reading about China and Shanghai) I am really excited 😊 Let’s maybe meet one day ! I would be really glad to meet you, you seemed really nice 😄

I only had time to watch the first minute, but there's a cool spiral escalator at the Westfield San Francisco Centre across from Union Square. It's multiple escalators that go up all eight or nine floors. I do suggest visiting San Francisco if you can solve that visa issue you mentioned, although it's a bit gritty from homelessness in parts. San Diego is also a good bet. Los Angeles is confusing and very spread out, so I advise taking tours for anyone unfamiliar. I now finished watching the rest. You aren't the only person to get lost visiting the French Concession. Me to. When I was in Shanghai I looked at my map and decided to go there. I got off the subway (probably the same stop you did) then wandered around for about five or six hours. After returning to my hotel on Nanjing Road later that evening, I wondered if I did it right, but never had time to go back. Your pictures of the area do look familiar, so I think I did it half right. Good video, as always.

basically all cars are blue plates, but only few of them are green plates (e.g tesla) cuz they are electronic car, new energy vehicles can apply for green plate for free, and if u want to get a blue plate, u have to draw lots 1 out of 20, even if u got picked luckily, u need play approximately 100,000 yuan for that plate cuz there are numerous cars in the city. Basically its a wise act for encouraging people buying new energy vehicles

I left end of last September. I'm missing SH. Watching your video was nostalgic and loved seeing HuaiHai Zhong Lu and IAPM mall as I used to rent around there. TianZi Fang is a big tourist trap and locals bring their tourist visitor friends there. There are lots of Chinese tourist who visit it as well. I will come back to visit every 5 years. SH feels like a second home to me now. Will you visit again? Do you also feel like home when you go back?

i grew up in the french concession, and now after 20 years living outside of the area, one of my wishes/dreams is to be able to afford a not so big $2m (USD) condo and move back someday. i'm so envious of some of my childhood friends who still live there, and some of their houses are worth $10-20m that i may never be able to afford.

On Wukang Road there was a well known french bakery or boulangere called La Farine. I went to their store quite regularly. But due to some food hygienic issues they were accused of having used questionable flour as the base for their pastries, their operation came to a stop in Shanghai. The french manageriel team fled. However I've found another french hideaway in the area that serves french crepe and galette called RAC. C'est manifique! Hope you could pay it a visit next time you are in Shanghai.

Actually the meaning of “shanghaied” is to be bundled off the streets of Shanghai and onto a tramp steamer to work as indentured slaves in Southeast Asia. It was common for foreign companies get able bodied workers from China to work in mostly Malaya, Indonesia and Philippines. They considered the local populace were unreliable and lazy.
