Hey it’s Susanna here back with another vlog! This time I went to the LIGO-Virgo-KAGRA (LVK) 2024 conference which was held at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. I got to see the LIGO detector which was one of the first detectors to observe gravitational waves on Earth! Gravitational waves were first predicted by Einstein over 100 years ago and in 2015 we observed the first gravitational wave from two black holes over 1.3 billion light years away! Have a look at how these concrete tubes observed one of the most exciting events of the 21st century… and yes I also got to see the Nobel prize awarded for this discovery!
