Morbid fact about that graveyard: the cliffs are a bit crumbly in that area of coast, and there's been a few occasions after heavy rain has caused a bit of subsidence, that grave contents near the edge of the graveyard have worked themselves out and dropped into the back gardens of the houses down below. Hello Mr 200 Year Old Fisherman, pleased to meet ya!,

That water filled grave, was the very one I laid in years ago joking about with my Dad. Whitby has always been my soul home. I’m currently trying to move there. A promise I made to myself when I was 18. I’m now 49. Life happens. I can’t wait to see the glee in the eyes of both of you, when you see her at night. If you can. Take the chance while others sleep. While the pubs are closed. That’s when the real spirits come out. 👍👏👏❤️❤️❤️

If you're going to go this far into Dracula, don't ignore the Romanian portion of the tale. There's the tourist Dracula's Castle (Bran Castle) but there's also the castle ruins where Vlad the impaler actually lived. If you think 199 steps is difficult to climb, try the 1500 that it will take you to get to the real Dracula's Castle. It's called Cetatea Poenari. That was Vlad the Impaler's actual castle. It's a bitch to get up to but it's well worth it. I've been there three times. I think it's currently under renovation but it's well worth the effort. They don't do a good job of updating the current accessibility so you would have to call the hotel that's closest to it to find whether or not it's accessible at the moment.

Don't you know seagulls always say 'mine! mine!'. I heard a rumour say that the very first inspiration for Dracula that Bram Stoker had was when he saw the devils eyes in the Abbey, as the sun sets from a certain angle in summer, as it vanishes behind the abbey it shines through a particular window frame making it look like a pair of glaring red eyes.

It's wonderful visiting places that inspired novels. Walking through the streets, pointing out certain details (where the black dog ran between the houses and then finally to the steps), even though it never happened...it did...in all of our minds when reading the book. The book literally comes alive when visiting there. Truly amazing.

Oh wow. I live so close to Whitby, it's great knowing you guy's are seeing it - and at the perfect time of year when it's bleak and cold. I hope it gave you the same vibe climbing the steps as it did me years ago. You know there's a Vampire Convention once a year there don't you? Goth, Steampunk combo celebrating all things Gothic. It is quite something to experience.

I am so glad you make the trip to Whitby.. The place is magical. My wife used to live there for a while and actually was a "scare actor" in the Bram Stoker's Dracula Experience for a while.. Once a year in the 1990s the Experience would hold a masked ball to celebrate all things vampiric, ect.. My old band (13 Candles) was pretty much the house band and played every ball they held. I have amazing memories from those times. Aweome video and thanks for sharing with us.

🇬🇧 i think we Brits kind of just take it, as is, we dont exactly take it for granted that Whitby is the centre for all things Dracula as its not historic in the Dracula sense but is from the literary sense via Bram Stoker I mean the Abbey is, and the places are & Whitby is a lovely place in summer but its link with the Prince of Darkness ( & i dont mean dear old Ozzie Osborne) Is a ficticious one. It doesnt stop it being cool though! I first went to Whitby with a school trip ! In the 1960s But have visited many times & its quaint & quirky to us. The Goth weekends are brilliant though! My youngest daughter is madly Goth & ive too have donned my Cobweb dress, cloak & outrageous hair & prerequisite make up! Its a great weekend, such a shame you missed it, theres a great cameraderie abound. We're just 80 minutes drive from Whitby so its a home from home to us. We also lived near the isle of Lindisfarne where the Viking raids took place in 700 to 900AD That really is a very creepy & atmospheric place & gets cut off from the mainland a few times per day by the tides. Enjoyed your view as Americans On Whitby & so very pleased by your genuine thrill to be there. Thank You both. Peace & Goodwill 🇬🇧👧

Probably one of my most favorite videos from you guys, and generally I enjoy all of your videos. But this one really has a certain charm to it. Just oozing with gothic romanticism and the weather really sets the stage too. Very, very cool.

In the 1977 BBC version of "Count Dracula", Mina & Lucy's encounter with Mr. Swales was shot right there in the graveyard. Maybe a re-visit there would include the filming location? Regardless, this just might be the most beautiful-looking vid I've seen (Thus far) from The GLC! Bravo to you both!

What a difference a season makes. We were in Whitby doing the 199 steps and the abbey in July and the town was jam packed with tourists. You definitely picked the right time to go. If you want a huge abbey, visit Rievaulx Abbey near Castle Howard. That place will blow your mind for sure. Awesome video as always, loving your work.
