I started my own campaign of Lothlorien because of this playthrough and man, did I get a tough seed. Every evil nation around me is expanding so extremely fast. Minis Tirith in Gondor fell before turn 30, Thranduill’s Halls just feel around turn 50 to Gol Guldur, the Anduin Vale is down to 2 settlements, and the Misty Mountain Orcs have just ballooned out like crazy. The snow orcs and Angmar have both expanded a lot too and even the Northern Dunedain’s capital fell. Isengard was the only one that was pushed back early game by Rohan. But, Isengard just pushed out into Enedwaith and has basically reclaimed all of its land. Mordor though is just nuts. Normally, they get held back even for just a bit, but not this time. They are pushing into the heart of Dorwinion and Rohan and it is only turn 60. I have been forced to yield some territory to Mordor as well. I don’t know how I could possibly win at this point. Like, I could deal with all the other evil nations, but Mordor is too strong. I can’t deal the the misty mountains and Gol Guldur at the same time as Mordor when my units cost so much and take forever to train.

may be worth restarting but up to you. Ive noticed that how quickly evil factions expand depends predominately on you. For instance, if you rush dol goldor and rely on the fact that units like celeborn or rumil can hold the city entirely on their own, so you can expand elsewhere, then pressure is relieved from dorwinion, and the woodland realm, as well as rohan and dale, which has a knock on effect on gondor and erebor, so they hold a lot better. Equally, in my campaign I rushed Isengard with Haldir and all the early units (very tough battles though, almost lost it to Saruman), so then I could protect Rohan and then united with the woodland realm to rush dol goldor, every faction held as a result, except for gondor and enedwaith because it pushed isengard their way

Oh absolutely. Generally, it is easy to influence other nations based on your own actions. But it just didn’t work this time. I took half of Dol Guldur’s territory fairly quickly, but it didn’t matter because Dol Guldur was taking territory just as fast elsewhere. I don’t like cheesing the game with general spam or finding peace with surrounding nations to be able to focus on 1v1 with other nations. I was looking forward to the challenge, but it is possibly just a bit too unwinnable without using cheesy strategies or slogging through at a snails pace. I will probably restart.

That's the opposite for me. My elven campaign is the easiest one I had on DaC so far. I took Isengard at turn ten and got ents which are unstoppable. And then two full stacks from Woodland Realm. I just put all my generals in one army and no one can beat it

“Divide and Conquer is back on the menu, boys!” Also, I’d highly recommend building roads at Fenholm. You are moving troops so often in that area - quicker you can move them, quicker you can respond to a threat.

Apollo, you have to check the culture in your conquered cities and focus on building culture building THERE! Not in your capital, since it's Elvish land! When in building mode, click on the button for details of your settlement, there you'll find the culture (in percentage). Keep up the good work by being aggresive, it's the only way to move forward. Read notifications, you were given four units of archers to your capital (in order to defeat that Mordor army)

Hi Apollo, love the playthrough! I have some advice: try to build barracks and a practice range in Roshgobel (north of Amon Lanc) and in your new settlements if they don't have those. That way you can recruit more Elves way closer to your frontlines and you can also retrain your existing units (especially your elite depleted units in Roshgobel are in need of that).

You need to upgrade barracks , archery range ect to get more powerful troops.

Take a general and start building towers on the borders, you can shift troops around when you see your enemy coming. First building in a new settlement must always be a artist studio, there is no elven culture in the new settlements and progress is really slow like 1% each turn. You build the archery in Amon lanc but don’t have culture to train troops there, if you build the culture first it can rise when you build military buildings so faster troop training. Most advise occupying cities to preserve buildings and population. I seldom occupy. Extermination speeds conversion and allows you to move on much quicker. Sacking can be a great source of money and also reduces immediate resistance to occupation. One reason to occupy is if the settlement has special buildings that you can’t build and you fear destroying them during sacking or extermination. I’ve never seen this loss, but others swear it happens. So I favor sacking for money or extermination for control, but most swear by occupy.

Reinforcing The other elven force didn't reinforce Haldir, because you left a gap between them. Only armies next to one another on the campaign map can reinforce, AND if the enemy sallies out from a settlement, then all the reinforcing armies need to be next to the settlement, not to the besieging army. It all depends which square the battlefield is.

Build the town militia so you can put your Generals in the army . Their your best early game units and are being wasted setting in towns as a govroner at this point. The militia will keep the city's in line and their free troops.

the map just seems doomed for the good factions. dol guldur is very strong (lost capital but controls whole mirkwood) rhun is gonna be a steamroller later, angmar looks strong, and Eru knows what the goblins Mordor and snow orcs are up to

Retraining is more expensive than just building anouther unit. Only advantage is if you have a black smith in the city it will upgrade their defence.

Retraining is important because it heals units that have high experience. Those units he has had for a long time have a lot of experience and are more effective.

Dol Guldur has three problems: 1.) The strategy AI keeps sending small armies that it thinks will do the job based on the auto-resolve calculation, but that is very badly off whack compared to what the Player can do in tactical combat. Especially when tactical AI glitches as well (saved PA's campaign a couple of times already). 2.) The Unlimited Elven Defenders that appear out of nowhere do not help, either. 3.) The Galadhrim general units are OP as heck. Dol Guldur doesn't have good counters to them other than the Nazgul, and it let PA kill two of those already. Well, the AP units as well, but it would really need to focus those into a huge stack and just rush the generals. Dol Guldur in a Human Player's control would wreck PA's little cardboard empire in a hurry.
