Pros
GPS/GLONASS allowing rapid and accurate satellite positioning and return to home/landing capability.
HD video is recorded directly to a microSD card inserted in the rear of the camera. If no SD card is inserted, then low resolution 480p video will be recorded directly to your phone via WiFi

Cons
Uses 802.11ac fifth generation WiFi. Not everyone has this version of WiFi on their phone. Before purchasing, it's very important to first verify that your phone is indeed 802.11ac WiFi capable to avoid disappointment.
microSD card slot is hidden in back of modular camera. There is no mention of the card slot or its location in the instructions. The only way that I found it was through the efforts of another KZbin reviewer (thanks Bill M - RC goo.gl/tZ6dY7).
App got stuck in follow me mode. I had to restart the drone to exit follow me mode.

Enjoying very much all your videos!!! Am about to purchase soon a quad copter soon and am looking at options under $100. So far this one seems to be kind of Ok. Problem so far on all these is battery life. 8 min flight really is very tight and noticed how the battery was being sucked dry fast even on such high mah (1800) included. Since you've tested so many of these quad-copters with GPS, which one would you recommend to me that has good flight time please? I would be doing too much video recordings though, but still would be nice feature to have incase I do simple videos... Thanks in advanced.

Nice review of the XS812, having also watched Bill M’s videos about it as well. I’m looking forward receiving my own unit in about 2 weeks time! Coming from the XS809S, the GPS feature will really come in handy - especially since I manage to lose it in a mountainside forest, and haven’t been able to find it again... It’s really neat to see that the camera/FPV module can be slid out for the insertion of the microSD card, as well to facilitate an upgrade to a 5MP module when it becomes available 😀 One quick question: I still have one battery available from my lost XS809S - can it be used in the XS812 as well?

Yes keep your battery! It fits. Problem with the 812 is that it doesnt have a controller from the app.... cant use the wifi extender to get the camera and the controller!

Do you find that the quad flies extremely erratic? I just received it and it’s almost impossible to even hover,,it’s raining here so I just tried to hover in the house,,,it had 11 satellites too,,do you think flying indoors affects it....I have 15 drones ,,all have satellite,,never a problem indoors,,I sure hope I didn’t get a dud. Never fly a GPS drone indoors. There are too many things that will affect either its GPS or compass system, which will lead to erratic flying. Also, make sure to always do a compass calibration before flight as shown in this video.

Hi, so this new visuo quad xs812 has a lower flight time compared to xs809s based on your previous flight test on xs809s? Is it correct to say that one can get a clearer video feed thru the phone because of the 5Ghz wifi but the distance traveled by this quad is practically the same with the xs809s quad since its only using a 2.4Ghz controller...maybe a little farther due to non interference between the wifi feed and controller due to the different frequencies. As for the sd slot, for me I prefer the procedure of BillM review than yours cos constant detachment of the camera module might give problems in the future like breakage and loose connections. Anyway overall I really like this quad, but the flight time is disapppointing. Good job Quadcopter 101!

I bought this drone, and it was awesome. It did everything I needed it to. Well I was able to, until I made the mistake of not checking the props before flying as high as a could. A prop flew off, and hit my roof and destroyed it.

So this quad can not utilize the gps capability for a stable altitude hold, precise waypoints , orbiting, follow me and especially RTH features if you are flying this drone in a place with one or two gps satellites signals? It could have been a superb upgrade, but the flight time was disappointing at around 8mins without all the high speed flying and 360 flips compared to the battle sharks version which could do about 15 to 18 mins with high speed flying and flips. Could the upgraded features like GPS and 5G wifi affected the battery consumption? By the way, does this quad have 360 flips and rolls? Also the flight range is just the same with the older versions, at around 100m, the 200m capability of wifi ohone app does not improve the range since the wifi capability depends on the transmitter range since i think this has no virtual sticks on the gps app. But aside from the follow me, waypoints, precise one key return home, fail safe rth and orbit features, I also noticed that visuo improved the design in placing a ventilated cover below each propellers. This would really help minimize the frequent damage of the moving parts but a direct motor to propeller connection would really be an upgrade.avoiding all the moving parts like gears, shafting and bearings.

Yes the GPS does consume quite a bit of power, greatly reducing the flight time. And no, as it is a GPS bird, flipping would break the satellite lock.. Thus no flip capability.

i really like the way you present your review..keep it up!.., its a disappointment that it can not use a wifi 5G repeater to extend the range of the quad since the gps app has no virtual controls, But maybe the antenna mod on the transmitter and on the quad can extend considerable range on the disappointing 100 m range of the transmitter..

not sure what you meant there, the range of the quadcopter and controller is about 205 metres, the wifi for the FPV drops out at about 175metres. A 5G repeater would extend the wifi out to the same as the quad but the distance has been limited by the software not the hardware

The stability is really good in altitude and position with a good GPS signal I use an Iphone with XSW GPS application In spite of that I have't be able to operate the follow me and way point functions.. When i touch these icones on the phone nothing happen only a brief change of color of these icone but the drone don 't react . Only the commands coming from the remote controller are operating like RTH and fly around . Have an idea ? Is a software problem on the drone ? cordially Bernard Rossini

I'm using a cheap/old Android. But it has 802.11ac WiFi capability. It's very easy to check. Before purchasing, look for the network specifications, particularly WiFi specs. Verify that it includes 802.11ac capability. It may show others such as 802.11a/b/g/n, but if it doesn't show "ac" in the group, then it's not 5G WiFi capable.

"802.11ac" WiFi. Most people have 802.11a, b, g, or n WiFi on their phones. But not everyone has 802,11ac WiFi. The way to check is to Google search your phone's model name, along with the terms 802.11 and Specifications. See if 802.11ac shows up in the results. If your phone does not have 802.11ac WiFi, you can still fly it. But you will not be able to use the app to view real time video, along with the advanced features of follow me, circle position, or waypoints.

need advice after watching few reviews I ordered a visuo 812 came with no sc card slut but it flew great , flew it once was flying super well than just fell out of the sky , so took it home inspected it an one motor was not spinning the impeller blade , replaced the motor and gears an still no spin, turn out what was wrong was the housing landing leg was cracked so the gears would not engage . I replaced the housing and now it spins fine but it wont lift the drone im looking advice or a schematic of some sort that tells if I wire the motor correctly or if my blades are turn around, any advice much appreciated

There are two shapes of propellers, clockwise and counter-clockwise, that must be installed on corresponding CW or CCW motors. If installed on the wrong motors, the quadcopter will flip, fly sideways, or will not takeoff. Take a close look at the following picture and compare the propellers and their installation to your drone. Particularly notice the two different CW and CCW shapes of propellers, and where they are located. Make sure that your installation matches the picture. bit.ly/3oqKUqe

Make sure that you are using a card smaller than 32Gb, as its card reader will not work with larger cards. Also, make sure to stop video recording by pressing the record button one more time before turning of the drone. The video file will be corrupted if you forget to stop the recording.

The camera lens was pointed all the way up, and yes in that position the propellers are visible. But the lens can be pointed slightly downward until the propellers are no longer visible.

I have the unit pictured above, have the latest software loaded on multiple phones for FPV, here is how they stack up: iPhone 5 - not able to see wi-fi at all with drone listed - no listing in networks iPhone 6s - able to see network and control device but unable to view video or have FPV Old iPad Mini - able to connect to network and take stills and video Droid Galaxy #1 - unable to see network drone name Droid Galaxy #2 - unable to see network drone name Everything has as up-to date OS for the model. Any ideas? - Seems like hit or miss with the phones.

See the above video at 2:07 < click here. As stressed in the video, and in the above video description, this drone requires 802.11ac WiFi for FPV video transmission. Not all phones have this newer type of WiFi. Of those that you list above, iPhone 5, and Droids 1 and 2 do NOT have 802.11ac WiFi capability, and will not work with this drone. Your iPad Mini has this capability. But so does your iPhone 6s. But I'm not sure why your iPhone 6s is not working properly with the software.

This drone uses 802.11ac WiFi (forget the 5G term as it is confusing). First verify that your phone has 802.11ac WiFi by Googling your phone model name, along with the term 802.11. If 802.11ac shows up in the results, then your phone will work with this drone. If your phone does not have 802.11ac WiFi, you'll still be able to record video to an SD card, and fly the drone using the controller. However you will not be able to view real time in-flight video on your phone, nor use the advanced features of follow me or waypoints (circle me can still be activated through the controller).

You never addressed how to copy the SD card info from the drone. I bought this drone and cannot copy anything from the SD card as my iMac will not read it.

You mean the microSD card not showing when inserted into a card reader, or that your iMac does not have a microSD slot?

@@Quadcopter101 I'm sorry, my iMac will not recognize the SD card after being removed from the drone. My other drones work perfectly when SD card from them is put into my computer. I've asked the seller and get no response. My phone doesn't copy the video/photos either, even though i see it live on the phone screen. I've changed several SD cards. The drone asks to format the SD, I do that on the drone. Then the computer does not read the SD card after use. I've formatted the SD prior to putting into the drone and the drone then asks to format the SD card. A vicious circle of formatting and not working either way. LOL Thanks for any suggestions. It's really frustrating.

Your phone must have 802.11ac WiFi.

It should if you press the video record button on the controller, and then remember to click it once more to finalize the recording before shutting off the drone.

micro sd slot is in the back of the camera. Camera has to be removed to access.

Quadcopter 101 prefect! Can I tell it to return home via my phone? I am a semi pro mtb and road racer and would love to take this on rides. Or do you have another drone that would be the best to handle those demands? Really appreciate your videos as well they are great, however too many choices and I don’t know which one would be the best. What would you recommend?

@@bikermansl3 The problem with drones that follow GPS signals are that they are not aware of elevation changes. If you climb a hill, they will attempt to follow you, but will be unaware of that hill or any other obstacle. But if you intend to ride in a flat open area with no obstructions, then this might work.

You could still fly it with the controller. But you won't be able to see real time in flight FPV video on your phone, or use advanced features such as follow me.

Kairuzzad, and how many times will they fix it because you crashed it? If any, usually warranty only covers manufacturing defects, not I dropped it after I hit a tree.
