The nonchalance swagger of this man at the crease is unmatched; the closest thing we have in the modern era is probably Kohli, but even he pales in the presence of Viv. How he is able to yield such power with a toothpick 80's batt is a testimony to his timing, talent and great eye. The ultimate boss.

Keep things in context. Lara had a higher average and scored more centuries against consistently strong Australian bowling attacks. He never had the relative luxury of playing against the likes of Simon O'Donell, Mike Whitney. While Richards scored some memorable innings against Australia almost half were against weak attacks when the WI bowling was destroying batting line ups. He had one stellar series against Australia 1979, he averaged 90 something against an attack where Lillee and Thomson were past their best. Every Australian bowling attack he faced ( for that matter Pakistan as well ) had genuine match winning pace as well as spin.

My favourite aspect of Sir Viv's batting is that he attacked all types of deliveries and aimed to score 4s / 6s off all of them. Defence / leaving and taking risky singles to rotate the strike were never part of his game and he never hesitated while playing his shots. Though he played his shots late after allowing the ball to fully come onto him - he was so confident and self-assured while smashing the opposition's bowling to all parts of the ground. Sir Viv was 'once-in-a-lifetime' batsman and the period that he played cricket in can well be called 'The Vivian Richards Era'.
