For anyone struggling with the slip stitches, don't make the loops too tight. Keep it a bit looser than your half double crochets so that the hook can slip under smoothly when you're doing the next row.

to help with this, you can use a hook that's a .5 size bigger

The 5 slip stitches get so tight for me that it becomes hard to see and I can’t put my hook in without pulling it open with my fingers. I literally dread when it comes to the slip stitches cause the rest of it is so much easier. I tried to loosen my tension, but it’s still not enough. Any advice?

My wife, who is a beginner in crochet, just finished this beanie. It turned out great. She had problems with the tightness of the five slip stitches at the start. She said she just kept them as loose as possible and if they were too tight, she used a hairpin to lift it and insert the hook. The top is not bulky and looks good. We're both proud of her accomplishment. Thank you Viv!

I love this pattern! I used this video to essentially teach myself to crochet and ive made four beanies that im super happy with. What i learned that id pass on for others is that if your slip stitches are super tight you need to make them COMICALLY looser. Like ridiculously loose it feels silly. THEY WILL TIGHTEN UP!! bc omg i was fighting for my life for a while there . Im currently working on your lemon peel cardigan pattern and having a blast !! So excited for the results

Learning to crotchet is the best thing I ever did, I was about your age when I started and I'm 20 now You will get better with each project and work up faster and faster :) There is a very simple backless dress pattern by Bjax on KZbin and it takes about 750 yards for a size large. I believe the only stitches required are a triple crotchet and a half double crotchet. I know you could do it!

Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE this tutorial. It is so easy to learn from and all of that, but make sure you check and see what type of yarn you have. I have a slightly different type of yarn and so when I did my 45 stitched they were way to big. I almost finished the entire thing and then I realized that it was to long. When you are making your starting chain make sure to check the size regularly so you don’t make the same mistake as I did. I just spent and hour and a half on this, just to be a mistake, and it’s past midnight so I’m gonna try to have a clean slate tomorrow and try again. I’ll keep you guys posted on this comments as I go along! Restart Day1: Okay, I took a break all day from crocheting because I wanted a very clean slate for today. I made my starting chain 26 chains long. I have a small head so I would recommend doing more than that, maybe 31. I spent 50 minutes on it, and I completed four rows. My stitches are pretty even so far, so I’m really proud of myself! I crochet slow, but who cares. I’ll update this comment tomorrow!

So if you skip lining the brim, do you just reverse the instructions when joining the seam? I tried and it's not looking right 😢 For example, because I didn't line the brim my working yarn is on the opposite side you have it on. So the foundation chain is on the opposite side and it's weird trying to join it.

It should stay the same length! Make sure that you have the same number of stitches each row. If you added more, it will be longer. Another reason could be that your tension loosened, but 4 more cm sounds like a lot, so I think you added more stitches.

Very cute and very easy-to-follow tutorial overall! The one thing I do wish you had shown a tiny bit more of were the five slipstitches on each row. I definitely got confused trying to figure out when I should switch to the slipstitches from the half-doubles. Do you have any advice for a relative beginner with this particular problem?
@VivCrochets
@VivCrochets Жыл бұрын
Sure! I always just count 5 from the end to make sure I start them at the right time. You can also look at the stitch and see if it’s a slip stitch or a half double crochet, which is a little taller

i've just come across your channel and decided to give crochet a go! unfortunately, i just bought a bunch of yarn that's splitting! do you have any advice to make this yarn work for me, or is it a total flop?
@VivCrochets
@VivCrochets Жыл бұрын
Some yarns just tend to split more! I think if you have tighter stitches, it’s easier to work with, but other than that I’m not sure. It’s probably not the best for beginners, so I would find a different yarn
