I attended a Vivaldi recital by Ms. Genaux a few years ago in Berkeley, CA. It was one of the most spectacular vocal performances I've ever heard. Her talent and artistry are nonpareil.

I much enjoy her sound and her versatility. I imagine there are those who would rather NOT watch her sing. This is true as I imagine also of Fagioli and Bartoli. I wonder if Genaux facial vibrations are "schooled" ie she practices them or if they are involuntary, just a result of vibrations her voice makes. Certainly, from the lessons I've taken over a number of years teachers would look to "correct" the "tremors" if it was correctable thinking that the an open round mouth produced "rounder" sound without risk of shutting or dampening any sound. This is not a critique of mine. I much enjoy her sound and artistry.

Her voice is a beautiful one, just like herself, her technique is one of the worst I've ever seen. Her voice teacher should be punished, her voice might be healthy now, but in 10-20 years it will look different, I can almost promise that.
@guglerbeat8 жыл бұрын
Why do you say that?? And: you do not explain your judgement, only give an opinion... Vivica Genaux is really gifted, hard working and already quite long in the business - her voice is even gaining now (I heared her performing Bellini and Purcell recently - it was just great!)

I saw Vivica at Caramoor in 1997, nearly twenty years ago. Ten years from now she will have been singing for thirty years--a long career. Her technique has held up, and she has lifted us up!

+Diana Emilia As others have pointed out, Vivica's vocal technique is excellent (although her mannerisms are slightly irritating at times). Her main vocal teachers have been Dorothy Dow, Nicola Rossi-Lemeni, and Virginia Zeani (all well known as outstanding vocal coaches). Vivica as a professional who is never completely satisfied, continues to train and retrain her voice to the current day, including as I recall with Claudia Pinza from the famous Pinza family. It is a sign of her excellent vocal technique that, approaching 50, she shows no sign of vocal decline.

peccato perchè avrebbe buona materia grezza ma non mi sembra un mezzosoprano maturo..poi le smorfie da coniglio evidente per deficit tecnico di appoggio...

Vivica Genaux's voice remains incredibly healthy in a concert setting, with this unusual technique. She manages to sing unsingable melismas for hours at age 49. This is prodigious.
@clraybon12 жыл бұрын
what a bad example she sets for young singers with all that unnecessary jaw and lip movement on the melismas. Shameful. She makes it work with all that extraneous movement, but someone emulating her would be in a world of hurt.
@frogmouth4 жыл бұрын
Unnecessarily judgemental. I like her precision. And who are you to judge what movements are extraneous. We are all made slightly differently which is why tongue piercings and facial surgery are so very dangerous. Not to mention dentistry! Singing at this level is an art not a science.
@mikehopkins40403 жыл бұрын
It's a personal style dont knock it .That's why two people singing the same song sound different.
