I used option 2 and after slip stitching the first row I can't move forward. I can't do the option 1 way. When I went around all the gaps it didn't make more gaps for row 2 it just pinched the square inward

Sorry but i don't get the first square. Can you explain it please? In the second row before making 3 dc in the first corner you didn't chain, in the second also but in before making 3 dc in the third corner you chained 2. When I do like this the shape is round, not square.
