Funny enough, the thing I both like the most and the least about this controller is the new stick design. On the one hand, the modules are genuinely quite innovative in their design, and FlyDigi deserves kudos for coming up with such a clever stick module. That said, I can't help but worry that the abundance of plastic materials in these modules, particularly in the tension mechanism, may make these liable to break. I have seen at least a couple of posts on reddit about parts in these sticks breaking or cracking, and I can't help but think that FlyDigi needs to use sturdier, more flexible materials that are more resistant to mechanical stress if they want to continue with this stick module design.

@@Hoshi-qe3yr I had the same problem, sometimes id get stick drift right out of the package. hall effect sticks unlike the potentiometer sticks the dualshock 4 uses wont get stick drift as fast. the upgrade to the hall effects sticks you see in this video is to counteract a re centering problem with hall effects sticks.
@ivanaviNiebla
@ivanaviNiebla 7 ай бұрын
Holy shit those sticks! Finally hall effect sticks that can brag about not having drift for real. With this new re-centering system, and the mini ball bearings, in theory, there shouldn't be any sort of drift caused by grinding of the materials in the future. No grinding on the sensors, no grinding on the axis, only grinding on the base in contact with the spring, but it will level itself out. And the extra tension you get on the sticks is perfect for those extended distance sticks.

@@simplydreamers By the way it looks, it doesn't seem that it wearing out will cause loose sticks, as the floor will still be applying pressure directly onto the thumbstick. And the axis on which it does the seesaw movement seems to not be an issue either, because it getting worn out wouldn't affect the pushing up on the thumbstick. Or what piece are you referring to? xP

The sticks remind me of the hall effect gimbals on radio transmitters used for rc stuff (mainly fpv drones). The way the tension adjustment works and how it springs back to center reminds me of them. Radiomasters and i think some Spektrums and other high end transmitters have spring tension adjustment on their sticks but also have friction adjustment as well. I'd love to see more customizability/adjustability in analog stick feel on controllers. And thanks for the great review and teardown.

For all shooters where i will need razor aim i will also prefer Eswap. But for immersive and single games apex 4 better. More comfortable in hands, better rumble, all buttons perfect to click, etc. 3. Xbox elite series 2. This thing have very many technical problems, but it's just very comfortable when it's work. So much more useful than the C and Z buttons they include on the Vader line. 2) create a DS4 or DualSense mode, not just for the adaptive triggers, but so that you can use the built in gyro controls of games or configure the controller with Steam Input.

Certainly the circularity test does not indicate whether the analogue is good or not. Flydigi wouldn't leave an 8-10% margin of error on such a revolutionary analog in main line of controllers (Vader and Direwolf are secondary). The Vader 3 Pro has the same margin of error and so does the DualSense (PS5). I think a perfect circle doesn't mean the analogue is perfect.

Love the new in-house design they made - looks a little over-engineered but still innovative. Based on my experience with the Vader 3 Pro and the initial round of feedback surrounding this one, I can see why Flydigi can call themselves the #1 controller in China (and not just because of the quantity they sell). Now if only they can release it in black... but I'm not hopeful for that one since they seem to pick either white or black for the Apex, outside of special editions.

If only someone would make hall effect keys switches for gaming keyboards, just like the triggers here. Many of us can't use gamepads, because they suck in terms of gaming compared to a keyboard and mouse. Now, having the wasd / arrow keys with analog feeling and not just digital on/off click, it will simply unlockk full potential for gaming like racing or others where you need a range not just click to activate.

I don't get it, you said gamepads suck in terms of gaming compared to a keyboard and mouse, but KB+M somehow lacking full potential for gaming like racing? This is exactly why you need gamepad or steering wheel or other appropriate device. Keyboards are standardized for digital clicks and typing, implementing analog WASD or the entire set is ridiculous from both mechanical and software side. The closest thing you can probably get is a handheld with keyboard and analog sticks/triggers, just like nobody wants a steering wheel or fighting arcade stick with built-in keyboard.

There are so many analog keyboards on the market lmao, apex pro, wooting 60he razer huntsman v3 pro, Corsair k70 max, more companies are coming out with them but the wooting 60he is the best by far

@@alexatwood6205 Analog switches doesn't mean analog input. It's just an overly expensive gimmick that allows you to adjust pressure levels. Even modern gamepads dropped the idea of pressure sensitive analog buttons.

@@J0rdan912 The same as analog triggers versus digital triggers on the gamepad. Some gamepads have just digital triggers, (just like keys on the keyboard). An analog trigger gamepad offers far more control than the digital one, right?! So if we apply the same tech improvement for keys, with dedicated hall effect switches, it will be great. And because you can easily swap out those switches for racing session (or whatever other games you might need full range effect) and go back to the digital ones afterwards, it will be versatile.

Could you make a video on their adaptive triggers? I saw a couple posts that Apex 4 has a vibration trigger mode where it takes the vibration data and adapts that to the adaptive triggers and automatically adding resistance. Could you confirm that? Apparently, it works without having to have the software open and it works OUTSIDE the games Flydigi Apex 4 supports

I own it and they got the different presets for that. Racing, Sniper, and trigger locks ( 3-4 settings for that). And I think that's all

@ there is vibration mode also which is exactly what he is saying. It works great on games that flydigi doesn't support been using it on metro exodus for immersion lol but of course it's not as good as the officially supported ones. Oh and also if you're gonna use vibration mode you have to tinker with the settings a bit to feel the difference more I think it's the vibration shielding and frequency that affects it the most if I'm remembering it correctly.

Yeah there is a vibration mode but it will only make the trigger vibrate It will vibrate in the same intensity as the controller rumble
@VKsChannel

And this mode works even on switch games as well

Wait, so when this mode is used. There is no controller rumble? But the triggers do vibrate and resist?

Great review, as always :) Do you plan on testing Beitong/Betop gamepads? They have a nice selection of models with different specs, would be great to see them reviewed properly like you do (with a teardown). As a suggestion for the testing: Launch a 2d fighting game like Street Fighter 2 and test the d-pad by throwing 10x hadoukens and 10x shoryukens from each side, with a game that displays the captured inputs.

great in-depth review as always, I was on the fence with this controller vs the vader 3 pro because of the lack of trigger lock but I think I'm going to have to grab a pair now knowing it has the simulated locks. I do have one question though, does using the motors at full force for the trigger lock significantly impact the battery life? I imagine it might but no clue how much power the motors really draw.

Not really, I used the apex 3 for a while and the battery life was longer than the vader 3 pro Vader 3 has 800mah I think apex 4 has 1500 almost the double!

that's good to hear, I guess having a charging dock should make it a non-issue too. also, I love the use of keyboard lube on the buttons, I've been doing it with all my controllers for a while now too, it especially helped the 8bitdo neo geo clicky stick feel much nicer. my dream feature would be if controllers started having hotswap switches like keyboards too. Are the face button switches here standard mouse switches and are the dpad switches the same height too? I am not the biggest fan of loud clicky buttons, it would be interesting to try mod the kailh silent mouse switches into the apex or vader.

I love this controller! Definitely worth the wait since and good decision for skipping Apex 3. I only wish they add more support to their adaptive triggers in the flystation when used for PC Gaming. Or atleast teach us how to make a configuration for a game that is not listed
