Nolan calling Debbie a pet and all the other horrible words about humanity is actually him trying to talk himself into this as well. As seen in the flashback, his time on Earth actually did affect him. If he truly was still 100% loyal to Viltrum, he would've killed Debbie the moment she found out he murdered the Guardians. And when Nolan flew away, crying, it wasn't because he couldn't decide what to do. At that moment he did decide.
@haystackbill6187

He wouldn't have needed to kill Debbie tbf, after the Guardians were dead there was no real threat to him, that's why he killed them first. After that he could have done to the Earth what he did to the Flaxan's planet if he wanted, no problem.

Disturbing that people are more reactive and offended by that term than anything else he says about humanity. There are far worse sins with how we treat and categorize life on this earth, than calling someone a pet. It's a particular nerve like every generation or class of people have that's "relevant" to their politics which writers love to milk. I love how it makes Omni-man a great character, but it's just tiresome because of how blindsided and insignificant the focus is compared to the immoral narrative shown in the show and real life. VKuna spent more time speaking and feeling that remark than any other point in the finale, like a wife's worth to her husband is more important and tear-jerking than anyone else who lost their life to his massacre. What a fucked up sensibility, I'm sorry I had to rant; it's the same as Amber playing pissy jealous for a guy who's the world's number one intel military asset, in a world where literal demons and aliens reign earth while she studies gender or art in uni. Get fucking real. No one watching this for the drama has any sense of scale or temperance for what that means, including the writers if I'm being literal. But if we're taking a backseat for entertainment, I can call any of you out for being overly engaged with one hypocrisy.

I did a little research on this subject. Here is what I found: According to Comic Vine, no Viltrumite is ever stated to pass the mark of 100,000 years old. Most average around 80,000 years - give or take. If we can assume the "time ratio feeling relative" (the story drops clues that support this) and the ratio of a Vitrumite living to 80,000 years to a human living to 80 years. 80,000 yrs / 80 yrs = a factor of 1,000 Same factor ratio by human standards - 80 years / 1,000 = 0.08 year Since 1 year = 365 days 0.08 x 365 days = 29.2 days So assuming the time ratio feeling relative - 80 years to a Viltrumite feels approximately like 29.2 days to a human. Debbie was already an adult when Nolan met her. His 20 years with her felt like around 7 1/2 days to him (30 ÷ 4 = 7.5). Her entire life would feel like a mini vacation for Nolan.

Yeah, I've mentioned this same point in multiple reactions. It is ridiculous to expect someone to completely change their entire identity and purpose in life, turn their back on their family and people and home world all because you found a worker bee that was just so cute and needed help. Like... okay, When it dies, what do you do with the remaining 60+ years of your life now that you Gabe up everything you had/were for something that no longer exists?
@swaswj414
@swaswj414 Жыл бұрын
@@hulkslayer626 I feel like that's a false equivalence. It's an idea gets explored a lot in fantasy and sci-fi, so there's really a lot of layers to it that have been explored and examined. There's innumerable different takes on the long-life dilemma, and none of them are inherently wrong. The key factor is there's more to it than just the numbers. You can't connect with the worker bee because it's a bee, not a sapient being. In the flashback in episode 8, we can see Debbie engages with Nolan, she connects with him and challenges his thinking and teaches him new ideas, and it feels very likely that he genuinely loves her and that makes him afraid. "More like a pet" is probably indoctrination from the rules of interbreeding or straight denial, because no matter how short her life may be, she in some way completes him, and the thought of losing her is terrifying. The things he's shouting at Mark in the final moments are things he's clearly asked himself and doesn't have an answer for: "What will I have in 500 years when Debbie is gone?"

Because there's a limit to how much lying to someone's face you do, no matter how much good we do at superheroing." No matter how badly Amber behaves or how horrible she is as a person Atom Eve is entirely right when she basically goes "I didn't tell you to string her along for five months, Mark! And her knowing does not excuse Mark's behavior. And her telling him that she knows or witholding that she knows from Mark also does not excuse Mark's behavior. We can argue that her witholding that she knows from Mark is Amber stringing Mark along but that would be about HER behavior, not about HIS behavior and HIS behavior is the basis of Amber not un-dumping him.

Trust is important yes, but plausible deniability is necessary. It isn't just about trust, but safety. Anyone, and I mean anyone some how gets their hands on the information that Mark is Invisible. Anyone who knows/love will be a target including Amber herself. So I'd say he has a very good reason for keeping that secret and Amber should understand. Who knows, Amber's laptop could be listening to her in her sleep, so even if he trusted her it's still dangerous. They'd have to get Cecil involved to keep Amber's toys from spying on her like Google/Apple love to do.

The cool thing is, the comic this is based on, has a definitive ending. And they are gonna try to cover all of it in 6-7 seasons. And well, each season is gonna not only get bigger, but also better. We have seen nothing yet. And another cool thing is that the author of the comic is working on the show, and he is rewriting/rearranging a lot of stuff that maybe didn't work as well when he wrote it in his 20s. So yeah, hopefully there will be no more big gaps between seasons, and we will have a decade of invincible seasons coming.

@@transformersrevenge9 Episodes 2 and 3 were far worse than 1 and 4, to be fair, and I was so confused with the discrepancy, that I looked up the writers of those bad episodes and found that they produced trash in the past (Matt Lambert wrote Ep. 2, Adria Lang wrote Ep. 3). These two episodes were mostly filler, but the bad writing comes in with character continuation, such as the fact that Robot stops fighting remotely with no justification for why (explanation is not good reason), and Amber still exists. LOL sorry, but what I mean is that at the end of Season 1, Amber broke up with Mark after badly gaslighting and mistreating him. She went from being a narcissist to being sweet and supportive, and that is fine, but there is no good explanation for why, or transition to her arc. There is also no explanation for how they are back together suddenly, and the fact that Amber did not have to grow as a person to earn it leaves a sour taste in a lot of people's mouths. There are other issues with the writing, such as bland dialogue (but maybe that is a comic problem, I didn't read the comics), but on the production side there are also problems, the best description of which I found on Reddit right here: www.reddit.com/r/Invincible/comments/17n9ke6/did_the_show_change_or_bring_on_writers_for/ Sorry for the rant! The second half of Season two is set up pretty well after the last episode.

The fact that this deformed man literally cloned himself so that he could be with the person he likes is both beautiful and tragic at the same time. He barely knows her and yet he's ready to go this far. (EDIT: Also the "so you freed villains, cloned Rex in secret and you expect us to trust you?" "I... Yes." is such an autism moment. When you have pets you love them but deep down you know that their life span is short compared to yours so even though he does love Debbie he's tries not be too attached. He did love Debbie and Mark, and even cares about the human race. This entire episode was just him trying to convince himself as much as convince Mark to help him assimilate the Earth into the Viltrum Empire. He was just distancing himself from those feelings so he could do his job even if it meant killing Mark. If you wanna know what it looks like when he doesn't care look no further than the Flaxans and their civilization in episode 2. In fact Nolan planned on living out Debbie's and Mark's lives originally before resuming his mission to take over the planet for the Empire, but when Mark told him he got his powers, that's why he looked so disappointed and shortly after killed the Guardians, because he realized that now Mark would live as long as him at least, and that he couldn't delay his mission any longer, and that disappointed him because he did enjoy his time on Earth and loved his family.

Remember one single thing. Nolan has lived with Viltrum's ideology for hundreds of years. We know many stories about how people who lived in an environment with a certain philosophy could not recover and open up to something new in the future. In the case of Nolan, everything is a thousand times worse, because he really has lived so long and is so superior to the vast majority of life forms that people are literally equal to insects for him. And despite all this, just 17 years of living on Earth as a husband for Debi and a father for Mark have changed him. He did not want to kill his son and take over the planet, as his duty dictates. This is an incredible progress for someone who, in principle, cannot be measured by our standards of morality.

Amber was horribly written. In the comic, she was quite different, that is to say, quite better. In this tv-adaptation, she was written into being a Covert Narcissist with a hint of Machiavellian.:: ▫️ She blackmails the highschool bully into being a kind of errand-boy and probe to ascertain whether Mark was interested in him. ▫️After Mark had fully recovered from being hit by a bus [[ _in actuality, recovered from being _*_nearly beaten to death_*_ by Battle Beast_ ]] Amber goes back to her behaviors of being unwilling to listen _and yet_ highly expectant of nothing less than flawless attentiveness and punctuality [[ ...and as far I'm concerned, of being constantly _servile_ in the relationship ]] ▫️ At the college campus, she witnessed the most easily solvable 'mystery' disappearance of Mark, _seconds before the all-of-a-sudden, out-of-nowhere arrival of Invincible_ who saves both she and William just in the nick of time... But instead of conveying even subtly that she knows that Mark is Invincible, she berates and shames him; accusing him of cowardice and being untrustworthy... In retrospect, it seems thoroughly clear that she had correctly deduced that Mark is Invincible and _therefore_ understood the real reason why he 'disappeared' _as well as_ why he would often be late for their dates... _and yet..._ ▫️ Once Mark discloses his secret identity, instead of exhibiting even a scintilla of a willingness to understand [[ _to _*_empathize_* ]] instead, she condemns him for... (?!?)not trusting her enough(?!?), when their relationship hadn't even reached half-a-year... Amber was rewritten from an intelligent, pleasant, kindhearted idealist (( in the comic )), into someone who's seemingly a good-natured social reformer/civil advocate, but in actually is a self-centered, manipulative, would-be dominatrix....

Okay so 1. She gives a bully a taste of his own medicine. 2. Amber probably knew Mark was lying to her face already. 3. Most people are not happy about their partner lying to their face. 4. Why would she be happy with him? He exposes her to potential dangers without given her the option to consent to said dangers, he is not open to her about the things that he goes through and he only decides to be open to her *AFTER* she has broken up with him. What i see here is a person that is justifiably angry at Mark.

The TV show screenwriters really fumbled the ball when they re-structured the Amber story line. They wound up making all the characters involved look inorganically bad, especially Amber. "Think, Mark! THINK!" - I think Omni-Man was trying to convince himself. *Omni-Man was telling the truth when he said his life on Earth felt like a speck of time for him.* Viltrumites live for an EXTREMELY long time. I could be remembering this wrong, but I think a clue dropped at one point when Omni-Man said "he remembered something from yesterday" and Debbie corrected him saying "that happened years ago". That clue might have been from the show or the comics, I don't remember. I believe episode 1 Omni-Man was hoping that both Debbie and Mark would die of old age and never find out his true mission on Earth. Once Mark got his powers, Nolan knew it meant he couldn't wait for Mark to "age out". Therefore, Nolan had to stop his little "vacation" and get back to work conquering Earth. SIDEBAR SPECULATION ON VILTRUMITE AGING AND WHY DEBBIE WOULD FEEL LIKE A PET: To give a perspective of time for Omni-Man: When Omni-Man crushed Red Rush's head, it lasted less than a second but felt like hours to Red Rush. Omni-Man has the opposite problem. According to Comic Vine, no Viltrumite is ever stated to pass the mark of 100,000 years old. Most average around 80,000 years - give or take. If we can assume the "time ratio feeling relative" and the ratio of a Vitrumite living to 80,000 years to a human living to 80 years. Her entire life would feel like a mini vacation to him. It was Debbie's short lifespan that made her feel more like a "pet" to Nolan.

Nolan does love his family as you see him leaving Earth for them which is a death sentence. And that alone is far more than most humans. Nolan lived for more that a thousand years, we are to him the same as insects are to us. So the fact that just in 17 years which is a very very little speck of his life, he grew to love his son is astounding. When you say "How can you think one life is superior to another" we already do that. Do we care when we eat plants ? They are still life forms. Or when we wash our hands ? Bacterias are single cell but they are still alive. This is best put by Death in Supernatural "You have an inflated sense of your importance. To a thing like me, a thing like you, well... Think how you'd feel if a bacterium sat at your table and started to get snarky. This is one little planet in one tiny solar system in a galaxy that's barely out of its diapers. I'm old, Dean. Very old. So, I invite you to contemplate how insignificant I find you." That is exactly how viltrums think of most others. Like how we think of microorganisms

About the end comments about how fragile we are as humans. Yeah, we are very fragile. Get the wrong wires crossed, or spill the wrong fluids into the wrong streams or the wrong parts mixed with the wrong other parts with our body. The wrong injury to just one part of us can take us out. Or just one part going out for us with age is enough for us. In the comic though, Viltrumites are *UNBELIEVABLY* more resilient. __COMIC SPOILERS AHEAD__ Near an alien planet, Mark, his alien (rapidly aged forward brother) and his father end up in a fight which leaves Mark with a wound and his guts hanging out in space. They're defeated, but left rather than finishing the job (or was it that Nolan finished the fight? I forget, that issue was a while ago for me.) Marks brother and father took him planetside, pushed his guts back into his body and wrapped him up. Without medical equipment, on a planet not even into the prehistoric era, the two watched over Mark, ate mostly uncooked Alien meat and fed Mark the liquids from the aliens to keep them all alive, and Mark made an entirely full recovery. Yeah, Viltrumites are EXTREMELY durable and powerful. The only thing that's comparable might be Allen.

One of the subtle bits of characterization from Robot/Rudy's cloning process is how he's different from the Mauler Twins. The Mauler Twins need the process to be seamless and leave doubt about who the original is. They squabble constantly about who the clone is because they're narcissists who assume the strong should rule and exploit the weak -- and of course, the original must be perfect in every way. They don't for a moment hesitate to throw the other one under the bus. And if they had any capacity for self-reflection or empathy, they wouldn't be attempting to seize the White House with guns under the assumption that people will just obey a brute show of strength. They assume what must be true for them is also true of Robot. However, Rudy/Robot does have compassion and empathy, and the new Rudy offers to build a shared future together as allies, but still nonetheless respects the old Rudy's wishes to die. I feel this is one of the core themes of Invincible. The Mauler Twins are the Viltrumite ideology writ small. Narcissistic, cruel and self-defeating. The thing is that neither the Maulers nor Omni-Man are stupid, despite their great physical strength. They're both cunning, cultivated and deliberate in their violence. They're artists and masters of their craft. But they squander their talents for nothing more than empty vanity. Neither are truly capable of happiness as they are.

Nolan is like 1000s of years old, and he would live for 50 to 60 thousand years. The twenty years he spent on Earth is like a few days. Debbie and Mark were truly just like insects, until Mark got his powers.

In the comics it explains that as Mark grew older and it seemed like he wasn’t going to have any powers, Nolan got used to the idea of waiting another 60 years until Debbie and Mark had died and THEN start his reign of terror. Mark turning out to have inherited his father’s Viltrumite abilities is what “reminded” Nolan of his real mission.

Okay before I start my rant I want to say, this really is a great show. I love the ending of this season bc you can see that even though Mark lost the physical battle, he definitely won the psychological and emotional battle. Now, this is why I can't stand Amber's character. She admits she knew that he was a superhero, but bc he didn't tell her his SECRET IDENTITY she gets mad!? And then after seeing the massive fight he has with his father she just goes back to him like she didn't just dump him for the dumbest reason ever. I completely agree with your assessment that Amber was not a feasible long-term partner for him. Mark deserved better.

Because there's a limit to how much lying to someone's face you do, no matter how much good we do at superheroing." _"And then after seeing the massive fight he has with his father she just goes back to him like she didn't just dump him for the dumbest reason ever."_ It's not the dumbest reason ever. I mean... For an "alien" race that super strong and survived fighting his own people to death just to be in that position and lived for thousands of years... Yeah he would be like that, he won't feel remorse or empathy towards beneath him. It's like us humans, we kill insects because we can and we're disgusted with them. If I asked some people would they annihilate mosquitos if they have the power to do it, I'm sure they would be glad to mass unalive all mosquitos or cockroaches. Nolan may look like a human but he is an alien. Although I can say that because of the time he spent on earth, I think he developed a little bit of remorse or familial emotion. That's why he said what he felt towards Debbie is like a pet. You know, like us, we really love our pets (dogs, cats, etc.) so, I think what Nolan said is his true feelings towards Debbie.

William IS NOT right. Mark was NOT a terrible boyfriend to Amber. SHE was a terrible girlfriend. and worse she kept intentionally disrespecting him even when she KNEW what he was doing. She said herself she's known for a few months. I don't care if she was his WIFE. They are secret identities for a reason. HE'S the superhero; not her. She gets NO SAY in whether he tells her. If she finds out, then she either should accept it or dump his ass. Amber stayed with him WHILE KNOWING he was Invincible and STILL made him feel like shit. THAT'S HER shit. Not Mark's. MONTHS she's known ans she still acted like he was flaking on her and even so much as started to hook up with some random college guy just to be petty. She likely thought if I force his hand he'll tell me. But of course when he starts to tell her she slams the door in his face, KNOWING what he was trying to tell her. And Mark is a bad boyfriend?? No, no, no, no. Amber is a toxic girlfriend.

But of course when he starts to tell her she slams the door in his face, KNOWING what he was trying to tell her."_ Doesn't the latter mean the former was not what she likely thought? @@Mansplainer2099-jy8ps This is the part where you have to understand that we're not talking about the teenagers down the street. This is a superhero. and his right to protect his secret identity overrules Amber "feelings" As I said SHE stayed with him knowing he was Invincible and continued to act like he was flaking on her. He wasn't flaking out. His not showing up was ONLY ever because he was saving lives. he wasn't just goofing off on his PS5. from the moment she realized he was Invincible there was an obvious moral choice. Get over herself or dump him. Amber CHOSE to wait MONTHS, even going so far as to act single and flirt with other guys. he wasn't being a coward he was keeping HER away from enemies that WOULD without a doubt target HER SPECIFICALLY if they knew she was his girlfriend. I really don't care what defense you have for that A superhero's girlfriend does NOT get a say in WHEN he decides to tell her or even IF he decides to tell her. If she finds out on her own then she's morally being intentionally toxic by acting like he's a bad boyfriend when he's saving thousands of lives rather than make HER the center of attention. Like I said Amber is a narcissist. She ONLY became interested in Mark after her friend says that mark was beaten up BECAUSE of her. @@patrickcromwell7554 _"This is the part where you have to understand that we're not talking about the teenagers down the street."_ But we are. (Especially since "rights" are a myth we humans made up a long time ago.) _"As I said SHE stayed with him knowing he was Invincible and continued to act like he was flaking on her. He wasn't flaking out."_ That depends on what you mean by "flaking out" on someone? Can you define it for me (so I understand your perspective better)? _"His not showing up was ONLY ever because he was saving lives. he wasn't just goofing off on his PS5."_ Sure, but let me put it like this: It's basically "Unofficial superhero rule to avoid being an a-hole: You get three months of dating a normal person then you either come clean to that person or you break it off. Because there's a limit to how much lying to someone's face you do, no matter how much good we do while superheroing." This means that no matter how many lives Wonder Woman saves, there is a cut-off point to how long Diana Prince gets to string Steve Trevor along by bailing on their plans together and then lying to his face about it while keeping him believing he's dating a normal everyday woman who won't get them targeted by supervillains etc. And what that cut-off point is is really up to Steve Trevor. _"from the moment she realized he was Invincible there was an obvious moral choice. Get over herself or dump him. Amber CHOSE to wait MONTHS"_ Sure, but how is that "Amber stringing Mark along and being an asshole about it"? She's not suddenly keeping him in the dark about who and what he's dating e.g. it's not like she's now a vampire so potential cursed immortality (intended or not) is now in the cards for him. _"even going so far as to act single and flirt with other guys."_ Isn't that at the five months's end and where she was likely about to dump Mark anyway since she chooses to go all "Where were you, coward? Consider yourself dumped."? Not saying that she's a great person or anything, I mean that you're a bit all over the place. _"he wasn't being a coward"_ That's what Amber calls him while she is pretending she is unaware of his secret identity so it's neither here nor there in the actual conversation. _"he was keeping HER away from enemies that WOULD without a doubt target HER SPECIFICALLY if they knew she was his girlfriend."_ Wow, that's some convoluted thinking. A Clark Kent dating Lois Lane for five months not telling her he is Superman in no way protect Lois Lane from being targeted by Superman's enemies unless you are saying women will automatically announce it to the world or something. Not dating Lois Lane would protect her from being targeted by Superman's enemies. _"I really don't care what defense you have for that"_ That's not surprising given how convoluted "that" is. _"A superhero's girlfriend does NOT get a say in WHEN he decides to tell her or even IF he decides to tell her."_ That is not the issue though. The issue is whether she continues to date him or not. _"If she finds out on her own then she's morally being intentionally toxic by acting like he's a bad boyfriend when he's saving thousands of lives rather than make HER the center of attention."_ That is leaping to a conclusion about what Amber is saying when she's telling Mark he made her "feel stupid and unimportant". I do not interpret this as Amber saying she expects Mark to prioritize being her boyfriend over saving lives, the issue is him lying about it yet continuing the relationship. _"Like I said Amber is a narcissist. She's not his first priority and she's butt hurt. She's a narcissist plain and simple. when Mark was doting on her and devoted every last second of his attention on her she was fine; but when he uses his abilities to help people he's a bad boyfriend. It's like that one scene in Incredibles when Frozone's wife hid his uniform so he couldn't be able to use it. In her mind SHE is more important than saving the city from a robot that's destroying it. It's always so fun to see people implementing human morals and concepts into Viltrumites. They are a complete alien race. The only thing that somewhat makes them similar to humans is that their biology is the same from the outside. Their morals are WAAAY different to ours. To them murder is just something that happens, nothing tragic at all. They are a warrior race mostly deprived of empathy and driven by tradition and battle. For Nolan, an elite Viltrumite soldier to actually *FEEL* at all is insane. Absolute insanity. You gotta remember, Nolan's been conquering planets for thousands of years, he's probably conquered hundreds of them. It just took a liitle time on earth, a loving wife and a family to have him genuinely break through that Viltrumite ideology and to have him abandon his post
