The Jerry Springer scene was probably the funniest scene in the entire trilogy, I inevitably burst out laughing the moment Dr. Evil gets up and charges at the Klansman for insulting Scott (which is kind of sweet in a way), it's just pure chaos and I love it, especially once Jerry himself gets in on the action ("He's biting me! 2:47 - Liz Hurley wanted to reprise her role as the main female lead but could not due to scheduling conflicts with other film commitments. So Mike Myers asked her to do a cameo and rewrote the story to maintain continuity. Myers also realized afterwards this made more sense as the Austin Powers franchise parodies 007 which has a different female lead every film.

Austin Powers is less a parody & more a homage to Bond. Despite being born in Canada, Myers parents were from Liverpool, England. Myers said that the movie and the character were inspired by the British films, music and comedy of the 1960s and 70s his father had introduced him to as a child. “After my dad died in 1991, I was taking stock of his influence on me as a person and his influence on me with comedy in general. So Austin Powers was a tribute to my father, who [introduced me to] James Bond, Peter Sellers, the Beatles, The Goodies, Peter Cook and Dudley Moore." Myers also said hearing the Burt Bacharach song "The Look of Love" on the radio led to him reminiscing about the 1960s, which helped inspire the movie.
@Ambaryerno8 ай бұрын
While that's true for the first film, with this one the comedy started to become considerably more broad and reliant on contemporary pop culture references for its humor. TBH, it's why I didn't like this one or ESPECIALLY the third (which went completely off the rails) as much as the original.

Fun fact: The British saying "Gor Blimey" is actually "God blind me," used to express shock or disbelief. In earlier times, what we know today as the British accent didn't really exist yet, so it was pronounced more clearly. The accent was invented by the noble class to separate themselves from common folk, but it eventually fell into fashion with pretty much everyone in the UK and became firmly engrained in their culture.

FYI: The Star Wars references like the opening crawl and Dr. Evil making the "I am your father" reference to Austin and calling his laser on the moon a "Death Star" was because "Star Wars: Episode I: The Phantom Menace" came out the same year. In fact, you should look up the trailer to The Spy Who Shagged Me as it celebrates the new Star Wars movie that was coming out that year too. For someone old like me who lived through all that, I was a little kid during the original trilogy. So when Episode I came out, it had been 16 years since the last Star Wars film and people like me were really excited. Mike Myers used that opportunity to put Star Wars jokes in the film since it was coming out around the same time.

Also love how this movie makes Star Wars digs and yet it has a future Star _Trek_ connection -- Rebecca Romijn, aka the 'other' model in the photoshoot, plays Commander Una Chin-Riley in Strange New Worlds. (And her husband Jerry O'Connell voices Commander Ransom on Lower Decks.)
