Vlad is the original Dracula. His father's name is Vlad Tepes "Dracul" and they called Vlad Dracula because he is the son of Dracul. The name means dragon or demon/ devil. So Vlad is son of the devil - loosely.

@@davidmartin1330 Bram Stoker himself got the idea of Dracula from Vald Dracula for he "had a taste for blood". One maybe real and the other fiction, but Dracula is based off of the real Dracula. They are related in that sense, but of course they got their names in different ways. Vlad got Dracula from his father who was called Dracul, and Stoker got Dracula from... Dracula. I don't know what research BTS Lloyd found, but they certainly are incorrect.

@@meganlodon Not really. Stoker found the name Dracula in a travel guide. He liked it an used it, the character was originally called Count Wampyr. Stoker has also said he took inspiration from the brutal conquests of Atilla the Hun, if he knew about Vlad and who he was he wouldn't look at Atilla for inspiration. Other then the name Dracula and modern day Romania the character is not based on Vlad.

@@vwisse nope the informations were not from a traveling guide but from Arminius Vambery (Hermann Vamberger) who was a friend of Stoker, who fed him the informations about the Prince of Wallachia. His thirst for blood was exagerated by Hungarian traders after he closed the borders after some trading disputes. And the Impaler mark was just a form of justice, he wanted his country to be free of tiefs robers killers and traitors, so that was the only punishment for every crime. It was effective, beacose trough all his rule, in the country crime was inexistent.
@vwisse
@vwisse 5 жыл бұрын
@@fedaikinatreides5215 And why then would Stoker say he got inspiration of Atilla the Hun? Why didn't he say, a friend told me about this Wallachian prince? Why was the character first called Count Wampyr? Why were original manuscripts referring to Hungarian places and only later changed to Romanian areas? Clearly most of the book was written before Stoker ever even learned the Dracula name.

Call me crazy, but I do think they pull back from previous ERBs. I'm reminded heavily of Hannibal Lector vs. Jack the Ripper in this one both in tone and deliver. Both the refusal to eat their opponent and the ending line by Dracula feel like they were lifted from that one. Granted this is fantastic, but I do feel like they reuse material. Vlad the impaler is the a regional Dracula as Dracula means “Son of the Devil / Dragon.” To which people knew Vlad as “Vlad the Impaler Or Vlad Dracula.” As he was known to have impaled 20,000 ottoman footsoldiers over their march into attempting to reach over Europe to which failed, so they built legends off Vlad the Impaler as to brand off his legends, so Dracula’s stories were built off Vlad the Impalers life style.

Dracula was based on Vlad Tepes (Draculea in romanian) And Dracula is not a meme on which vampire stories branch from and evolve since vampire myths are very old Wrote this in a subcomment: I'd be very surprised if Dracula was not based at least in part on Vlad Tepes as he was known as Draculea (Dracul).. Can't be a coincidence for the name..Also close to all myths relating to vampires can be found in romanian folklore and traditions that predate christianity.. For instance: Killing vampires with steaks trough the heart..It's an old romanian practice that people who had tragic deaths could rise from the dead and the only way to keep them dead was to unearth the body and either drive a wooden steak trough the heart and burn it.. Keeping vampires aka strigoi/varcolac at bay with garlic..Old romanian practice that predates christianity..The night between 29-30 of october is considered to be the night most likely for the dead to rise and for the strigoi/vampir/varcolac to roam..To protect oneself you need to put garlic at every window and smear garlic on door/window frames..This coincides with the celebration of Saint Andrew and Halloween (in the west) Mirror reflection - In romanian customs when one dies you need to cover every mirror in the house until that person is burried..It is said mirrors could trap the soul of the departed and that's why you can tell a vampire because it has no soul hence no reflection in a mirror Killing vampires with silver.. Silver is considered the only metal capable of killing a vampire/strigoi..Also used in white witchcraft (to this day) in exorcising the "possessed".. There is also a peculiar tradition in some parts of the country of blood drinking that survives to this day..On sacrificing an animal all those present (but only those that took part in the sacrificing) are to drink a cup of fresh blood straight from the neck the dying animal.. I'm yet to find out how this relates to vampires but in romanian traditions all customs are related and derive from eachother..Onother custom from the area (not only in the today romanian space) required drinking blood from the vanquished after a battle (from prisoners but not killing them) as a sign of submission or of superiority/strenght gained Vampires killed by the sun..All entities "from the other side" such as vampires but many others..are active only at night and can get killed if caught by the sun.. As a sidenote..When I say romanian traditions I mean traditions related to this space in particular but to part of central/eastern Europe too since at least some of these traditions are to be found in neighboring countries..

A German monk reported that Vlad dipped his bread in blood of impaled victims, so line about blood dripping on a buffet is hysterical. Also the play on the ottoman was hysterical because of the Ottoman empire, but the best play on words is the one about rats, when he was jail... he impaled rats and terrified his jailer. LOL! Vlad, hands down, won!

So the original vampire was Nosferatu, who turned the Count into Dracula (who is based off of Vlad the Impaler). Nosferatu cant be killed except via fire and/or holy baptism, so the sun doesnt hurt him. His 1st offspring, Dracula, cant be killed by the sun either, but is weakened by it. All of the offspring of Dracula, however, die in the sun, because the blood of Nosferatu is weakest in them.
