Michael Franzese came through for yet another VladTV interview, and he started off speaking about his new book, “Mafia Democracy: How Our Republic Become a Mob Racket,” where he compares how the government is a better-run version of the mob. Michael also spoke about being portrayed in “Goodfellas” and knowing the real guy who Ray Liotta played in the movie, who was put into witness protection. This led to a discussion about Alpo Martinez leaving witness protection to come back to Harlem, where he was ultimately killed. During the conversation, Michael also spoke about Sammy The Bull doing a VladTV interview, which led to Michael speaking about his relationship with Sammy. To hear more, including Michael speaking about the YSL RICO case, hit the full interview above.

Michael has solid points. I've lived in Las Vegas off and on since 2008 and let me tell you that everyone here says there is nothing more corrupt than the government as they have their hands in all of our pockets. We used to be able to keep our tips but now we are legally required to give a portion of our hard earned TIPS (which should belong to us) to the government on top of the money we already have to pay them. Every single casino veteran and Las Vegas local I've ever spoken to who were around when the mob ran Vegas said that back then the city was golden, everyone had more money, everyone got to keep their tips, everyone was taken care of until the government stepped in and now the government is nickel and diming everyone which the mob did not do. I hear them say that the only difference is the government is legally allowed to steal from you.

Michael Franzese is a respectable guy with an absolutely fascinating and even inspiring story. My only reservation about him is the extent to which he seems to get nostalgic about "the life." He readily admits that Mafia life is corrupt, evil and exceptionally dangerous; and he carefully, strenuously, advises anybody against entering into it. But he also acts like he kind of misses it. He clearly has respect for other family members, including of course his own father, a prominent member of the of the Colombo Family. I don't doubt that many of these men had admirable character traits, such as loyalty to their biological families, respect for each other, and a certain dignity in how they conducted themselves. But, at the end of the day, they were still criminals, men who made their livings in illegitimate ways that frequently ended in brutal death. Not a lot to respect.

IKR? I can’t recall who said it but a long time ago, this person said that the only difference between a government and a crime syndicate is, the government moves out of the rackets and the syndicate does not. This isn’t to imply that politicians totally give up those sketchy ties…they just won’t cross certain lines (anymore).

He makes a good point, case in point was Al Capone. They finally got him on tax evasion and he only got 11 years. He earned a medical early release due to Neurosyphilis and died of natural causes at age 48. In the 80's a Capone or a Gambino as an example would of been hit with a RICO charge and probably been put away for life.

But you realize time is short, I lived fairly clean for the last 40 yrs and am truly afraid of being homeless or starving, I'm not a whiner but I worked myself into my present condition. I guess a truly wealthy man would have a nice family and be happy, you are truly a lucky man. At 14:42, Michael mentions the movie "My Blue Heaven" with Steve Martin. "My Blue Heaven" was actually based on Henry Hill's time under the Witness Protection Program. Steve Martin's character was based on Henry Hill and Rick Moranis's character was based on former FBI Agent Edward McDonald. It was written by Nora Ephron, who at that time was married to Nicholas Pileggi. According to Henry Hill, Nora was taking notes from his conversations with her husband while he was gathering information for his book "Wiseguy" which later turned into "Goodfellas".
