No matter what John says, I felt the way I felt about Jordan because of the way he played. Basketball was at back in the 90s. Michael would abuse this guy's. There was nothing like heading into the fourth quarter and watching MJ take over the game if they were behind. When MJ hit that switch to get into another gear was just beautiful to watch.

One thing I noticed about former “Bad Boy” Pistons is they always downplay Michael Jordan while at the same time worshipping those 1980s Celtics teams. I see it here where Salley puts Larry Bird in his all time top five (which I agree with btw) as well as seeing Isiah Thomas drool while speaking of Larry Bird and Kevin McHale on NBA TV whenever he gets the chance. Those former Pistons do NOT respect Michael Jordan. They have nothing but love and respect for Larry Bird though.

Stats say Wilt, end of story. Wilt asked Jordan, would you like to put some money on that, when Jordan said he could beat Wilt 1 on 1, Jordan didn't respond and Bill Russell laughed, a 60 yr old Wilt could beat a 40 yr old Jordan. The NBA turned racist in the 90's, Wilt acted too white for them. Black supremacism is flagrant with today's players. Wilt conquered racism, he was not given his due respect from the 90's on. Those are two different issues..... Best player or player to build a team around. The first guy I'd pick to build my team around would probably be Pippen, because there has never been a better player so eager to do all the dirty work and get none of the acclaim. Put any other great offensive player next to Pipp, and they win just as many Championships. That's not a slight against Jordan, who IS the GOAT. The thing that grabs me about this interview is that if players knew MJ’s tendencies about how many dribbles before switching hands etc they still could not stop him. So what’s that say to his greatness? I know his patterns but he is still killing us.😂😂😂

@@hitek9too255 so to that i would tell you to go look up Jordan’s teammates his first 3 seasons in the league. Most people never even heard of those dudes. No all stars or HOFERS on those teams…zero. Pippen came year 4 and only averaged 7.9 points a game his rookie year. The point is it takes time to build up a team to make them a contender. MJ still dragged bums to the playoffs in those early years. Not even Isiah did that when he first got in the league. He had to wait until he got competent players before they made deep runs in the playoffs. Magic won early because he was fortunate to be put on a great TEAM his rookie season. Bird had very good teammates early on as well. MJ had bums early on and that is the difference. 🤷‍♂️

John Salley could make a point if what he is saying actually made sense. To many facts to dispute all in one setting I’ll counter his argument with just a few facts. 1. He takes pride in saying how the pistons stopped MJ and the Bulls in 88,89,90! Here’s the thing The Bulls dethroned the pistons but did the pistons ever dethrone the bulls and at what time did MJ’s Bulls ever get swept by the pistons but the pistons got swept but the Bulls so this point is moot, but what isn’t is once mike got past the piston they never looked back and the pistons could never get back because of the roadblock Chicago became to them! 2. Bill Russell’s 11 rings. Sounds great but he got 11 rings in a league with 14 teams and at the time he was one of four big men over 6’8”. Mike got 6 in a league with 30 teams talk about the competitiveness of the league at this point verses when Bill played. 3. 3 Mike has 6 NBA championships 6 finals MVPs (undefeated in finals play) 10x NBA scoring champion Lead the league 3x in steals 9x first team defensive 10x all-star 5 league MVPs 1 Defensive Player of the year Now compare Russell, magic, Kareem, West resume to Mikes it falls short....note Kareem is the leagues all time scorer but he played 20 years Mike only played 15 4. The ridiculous nonsense that stern used mike and made him the face of the NBA. Well who else was doing what mike was doing in this time frame that could have been used? I don’t think Salley for one could have filled the role so it’s not about just putting someone in the spotlight it’s about earning the spot in the light and mike did that. To sum up everything to me it just seems as if Salley is a Mike hater. I’ve heard better arguments made for Lebron being the G.O.A.T than the foolery he just spoke. At the end of the day it is his opinion.

@Joel Villarreal Thank you Joel his argument about less competitive makes no sense as there were fewer players thus tougher competition. Also even though there were fewer big men you did have Wilt Chamberlain and Nate Thurmond. Chamberlain was the greatest offensive big man of all time and Thurmond was an amazing bballplayer. If mere numbers are so important to you Ben why don't you talk about Chamberlain who averaged the same per game in his career as Jordan and 22.9 rebounds a game for his career. Why don't you talk about the Big O who averaged a triple double for an entire year with 12.5 rebounds 11.4 assists and 30.8 points per game in 1961-62. Oh thats right those were the years Russell was facing a water downed league

Finally someone that gets it. Jordan was chosen to tske the league to new heights worldwide. Therefore he was favored when it came to awards, foul calls, rule changes etc. The narrative that he is the goat has been pounded into peoples heads by the media, especislly espn to the point it is sickening. I have been a huge jordan fan since 85. Been wearing his shoes for 20 years, so i have no bias and there is ni doubt in my mind lebron is a better basketball player than jordan. He can impact the game in more ways, and is a better all around player. But there is no question wilt is the goat and the best athlete of all time. There are many players thst wouldve won those 6 titles in the place of mike. And there is no way michael wouldve taken lebrons teams as far as lebron did because lebron needed to do so much of everything to have a chance to win. When lebron had a bad game in the playoffs his teams had no chance of winning. Shit jordan was bad for basically the entire finals against seatle(shot 40%) and they still won. Rodman absolutely dominated and was robbed of the mvp, again cuz the nba wanted to keep promoting mike as a god like figure.
