@@eph_loves_80s74 Mike's Bad Tour was the highest grossing tour he ever did and we really got to see Mike take it a step further with his singing and dancing during the Bad era. Just look at his dancing skills in the Smooth Criminal video and his all around singing on the Bad album. Also, the Bad era was the era when he got labeled the King of Pop. He solidified himself big time in the music industry in that era.

Pepsta Lynn Michael was called king before the Bad era even arrived. Thriller is when he was on top of the world. 1983 the whole world already knew him before the Bad album even came out. He was everywhere in 1983. MTV,Friday Night Videos, BET, Video Soul, Rock and Soul Magazine, Billboard Magazine, JET Magazine etc. Michael Mania came. And don’t say Michael mania was in America in 84. Michael Mania was around the world in 84. Americans got tired of Thriller in 85 which is another reason why he didn’t win an American Music Award in 85 but every other countries still went on about Thriller. People outside of America rode high on Thriller longer than Americans.

Off The Wall was Spectacular but Thriller pushed Michael Jackson's creativity to another level. In terms of making songs and film-like music videos, MJ did it on a different level. Lord Jamar speaks nothing but truth in this. One of my jobs is being an MJ Tribute artist and really do look like MJ from the Off The Wall era and sometimes the Thriller Era. In my line of work, most MJ tribute artists are white. I'm literally one of the few Black MJ tribute artists. The fact I look like young MJ actually makes me more successful than the rest. If it wasn't for me being proud of my race and not surgically enhancing myself to look more like the less black looking MJ's out there, I wouldn't be as successful as I am. Embrace your culture people. Black is Beautiful.

I definitely prefer Thriller but Vlad needs to get off that "it's the greatest selling record" shit every time he debates the albums. Sales have no place in a better album talk. Go on about how every song was a jam, how it's mostly flawless aside from The Girl Is Mine, how adventurous it was with the reinventions of genres, how it took the Off the Wall prototype and perfected it. Who cares which album sold more? Thriller is the better album because it's more consistently great track by track. But Lord Jamar is right in saying that there'd be no Thriller without Off the Wall.

Off the Wall is more soulful. The reason why Thriller and Bad were well received because fans also connected with Michael Jackson's art. The artistic videos and dance took those songs to another level. It gave the songs a little more life and interpretation with the videos. For example Beat It and Bad on face value are just average crossover songs. The video is a different story. The first time we all saw Billie Jean when Michael walked on the glowing sidewalks. Like thats when the dude was just getting started, Dangerous and History were more personal albums especially History after he went through all the media bullshit. It wasn't a commercial album more personal even though it was marketed as one because its MJ. If you're talking about pure pop gold Michael Jackson then Off the wall and Thriller is as far as you'll go But I feel MJ was more than that imo Stranger In Moscow is his best ever song, like thats actually him as an artist saying what he's going through, Who is it and They done care about us are criminally underrated but because its not the classic afro perfect pop black michael jackson everyone wants to disregard him. Thriller is better because it showed that a black artist can do any genre he or she can do. R&B, Funk, Disco, Rock, and Pop. No black artist did all of the above especially in one album. Off the Wall was the Album of the times, but Thriller was an album ahead of its time. It never became dated. Off the Wall unfortunately is a dated album as a whole. Thriller has more iconic, influential and innovative tracks than Off the Wall does. The production is more advanced and complex than Off the Wall. Thriller is the blue print of not just Pop music but pop culture in general. Thriller is a symbol that shows that black artists can do it all. Especially with Rock and Disco being predominantly white at that time. Thriller was both a middle finger to racism and a sledgehammer that broke the racial barrier in the fine arts and pop culture

Song for song, THRILLER as a pop album beats OFF THE WALL. As a soulful r&b record that reflected the disco era, jazz, soul and dance it was definitely geared for a certain audience. MJ had goals to reach the world, and to transform popular music. To do that, it took, taking risk and thinking beyond the boundaries of what people called "normal". Beside all the personal things he had going on, if we focus ONLY on his music & his business mind, we see a man that is exceptionally gifted. He wanted to be #1 and he accomplished it. Period.

I do prefer Off The Wall but let's not act like Thriller wasn't the shit. Just as far as the Quincy Jones and Michael Jackson's stamp and Brand.That Album was stupendous for both of them.The Black community embraced it and mainstream as well. It was a progressive in the sense of taking a so called Bull Gum young superstar,and ascending him into adult hood in the music world ,was an indelible transformation musically for his career. Thriller was just complimentary which subsequented the success of that album.Plus the world already started to change once that Album came out.Maybe not in sales,but as far as the musical choices.,made Off The Wall to me one of his greatest efforts. He never sounded like that again. Although Michael made wonderful albums after that,but from A-to Z I LOVED ALL THE SONGS ON Off The Wall.R.I.P MJ

First time I highly disagree with Lord Jamar, Off The Wall is a great album from 1-5 and fall off 6-10 except for I Can't Help It. Thriller is great from Wanna Be Startin Somethin to The Lady In My Life. Every song on Thriller could've been a video.

Dnomyar Akunawik No Thriller is better. Off The Wall reached black people, Thriller reached people of all ages and races. And music artists of all genres. But Thriller is Thriller and people can say « forgot Thriller » but its impossible, it’s the album that made him a superstar and the years 1983 and 1984 was just its highest peak. Artistically other albums doesn’t have a song like Billie Jean or Beat It and he wrote a lot of songs during the Thriller sessions. Thriller won the biggest awards and became a basic album that everyone had to have. The album produced three legendary music videos: "Billie Jean," "Beat It" and "Thriller" that helped break color barriers on MTV and broke many more records. Billie Jean is on the 500 Greatest Songs Of All Time by Rolling Stone and on the 500 Singles of our lifetime by Blender, Beat It is on the 500 Greatest Songs Of All Time too, on the 500 Songs That Shaped Rock & Roll and listed on RIAA Songs of the Century. Thriller video is the only music video in music history which is Inducted into the National Film Registry of the Library of Congress and considered as the greatest music video of all time. (The album was also inducted.) Wanna Be Startin’ Somethin’ was one of his most popular and critically acclaimed songs. In addition to Thriller’s impact on music video and MTV, many musicians and performers who followed in the years after have attributed Michael and the Thriller album to be their inspiration and motivation for becoming musical artists. Michael’s vocal style on the album can be heard in the work of others such as, Usher, Justin Timberlake, Chris Brown, Beyonce, Ne-Yo, and many more. In conclusion, this album is so important and changed a lot of things. Thriller was the start of Michael Mania and everyone already knew him since then.

I can see Lord Jamar's point. Off the Wall feels distinctly planted in black culture of the time. The tracks from this album are tracks you could dance to in the club. Thriller saw Michael's transcendence into another realm. You could enjoy Thriller and Beat It and share in the spectacle of both. However, you were really dancing to both of those songs in the same way as the songs from Off the Wall. I see his point. Though, if you listen to both albums side by side one might enjoy Thriller better. Those songs from Thriller feel larger in scope.

At first I thought Off The Wall was better.... but I had to look back at not only the impact of Thriller, but the innovative sonic sounds of thriller, to the dance moves it incorporates to the music videos. There's no way Off The Wall is better than Thriller. Billie Jean is like one of the greatest songs of all time! To me ( and to Rolling Stones Magazine😉) Off The Wall is still a classical disco/ funk album! But Thriller sorry :)

@myadeedus8 жыл бұрын
Its hard to compare Off the wall with Thriller just for the fact that it was two seperate decades, Michael Jackson has always been original, so to label his later music white isnt really accurate, Jamar says the industry pushed the songs on to the people, but it was the people that chose to accept the music, and to buy the album, 80s pop was bigger than alot of other genres, for record sales, its fair to say that Michael Jackson went pop more than soul, but pop music had both black and white at the time.

I listen to Off The Wall and Thriller, and the Thriller Album have better songs overall. On Off The Wall Album, there are only 3 SONGS that r weak. 1. It's Falling In Love, 2. Burn This Disco Out. 3. Girl Friend, and 4. Get On The Floor which is ok, but not a good or great song. Lord Jamar does not know what he is talking about he likes Off The Wall Album because it has a black vibe that is it. IF OTWA was a shitty album he still will like it because of black quality sound. Nobody knows those 4 songs I mention, but everybody knows all the songs from Thriller media hype or not. Vlad knows what he is talking about, he's right. Thriller wins!!!

Michael Jackson was a co-composer of "Off The Wall" and "Rock With You" with Rod Temperton who was a keyboardist and leader or co-leader of the late 1970s group, Heatwave, and was a white man born in Cleethorpes, England. However, I still totally get Lord Jamar's points with respect to the 2 M.J. albums discussed.

I have enjoyed and agreed with probably 97% of Lord Jamar interviews but he lost me on this Off The Wall/Thriller debate but that's cool you can't win em all. Still my favorite Vlad speaker along with Charlamange and Star crazy ass. But uh... THERE IS IN NO WAY SHAPE OR FORM that OFF THE WALL IS BETTER THAN THRILLER. That's becoming like some cliche shit to say. Song for song on the playlist THRILLER is better than OFF THE WALL. Example: What song is "It's The Falling In Love" better than on Thriller? What song is "Girlfriend" better than on Thriller? What song is "Burn This Disco Out" better than on Thriller? What song is "Get On The Floor" better than on Thriller? What song is "She's Out Of My Life" better than on Thriller? Ya'll wanna keep talking this Off The Wall is better than Thriller nonsense? I wish somebody interview me on this shit cos i'll shut that debate down. I love Off The Wall but THRILLER IS BETTER. Every song on Thriller is the shit INCLUDING "Baby Be Mine" if anything that song is underrated like a mufucka. If that's Mike's least favorite song on Thriller then it's better than other mufuckas BEST SONG. That's real talk. And since when is THRILLER a WHITE ALBUM? Thriller ain't no goddamn WHITE ALBUM, white people just couldn't resist it's dopeness. There ain't NOTHING WHITE about THRILLER. "Beat It" ain't even WHITE, that shit is the best black rock joint since Jimi Hendrix. Hell it's probably safe to say it was the ONLY black rock song since Jimi Hendrix at that point and black people invented Rock N Roll anyway so "Beat It" ain't white. I'm from the projects on the south side of Chicago and niggas WAS BUMPING THE THRILLER ALBUM. PERIOD. In fact, when the Jacksons came to Chicago's Comiskey Park for the Victory Tour back in like 84' I think it was, niggas that couldn't get tickets were standing on top of the State Way Gardens Projects (which were on the other side of the Dan Ryan looking down into the stadium) with binoculars trying to look at that shit so I don't know what black people Brother Jamar talkin about not loving Thriller but black people in Chicago was on that shit. Wasn't nobody standing on top of projects for Off The Wall. Michael Jackson performed "Billie Jean" on Motown 25 and it was pretty much over for EVERY SINGER ON PLANET EARTH and it was over for OFF THE WALL as well. Again, I love Off The Wall but NOTHING is better than THRILLER. Not Off The Wall not Purple Rain, not Songs In The Key Of Life, not Aja, not The Joshua Tree, NONE OF THAT SHIT. Thriller is the greatest like ALI.

Put it this way. Off the Wall was great because it solidified Michael as the biggest black solo artist in the USA and broke him out of his shell as just the leader of The Jacksons. Thriller however, put him on another platform as solidfying him as the Greatest solo artist in the world. period! Thriller had a way stronger impact on the music industry and the world musically. Michael Jackson owned the 1980s.💯

LOL😝 at Vlaaad & LJ on the debate of "Thriller" and "Off The Wall" Typically an artist best work is his/her earlier art such as Miles Davis / Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd or Madonna, but there are people who have gotten better later on by crafting their art, such as Prince! If you start from Prince's first solo album of *For You* up 2 *Controversy* then U will see that musically he was growing as an artist to only get better. After his first 4 albums, his creativity level flew through the roof like a *Rocket ship explodes*. MJ is one of those artist who got better with time, and as a white man, i think "OTW" is more soulful than *Thriller* Both are great albums, but Thriller was better because it crossed over and appealed to more than just your typical MJ fans, But there isn't a single song on "Thriller" thats more soulful than "Rock With You" That song is untouchable! but as a whole, Thriller is still a much better album IMO. Also...I don't care what color MJ bleached his skin, how many nose jobs he had, because 95% of Hollywood has had some work done on their body, so if you all aren't going to judge 95% of hollywood, then leave The King alone and let him R.I.Paradise!
