Recently, DJ Vlad sat down with Damien Ritter, Hopsin's former business partner, and manager, to talk about their falling out and cleared the air on his behalf on what caused their falling out. Before their estranged relationship, Ritter says that he was introduced to Hopsin after being laid off from his management consultant position in 2008. Together, Ritter says that he and Hopsin went half on their Funk Volume label and even personally invested $50K and spent 2-3 years on making money on the side and helped Hopsin pay rent before things took off.
As things progressed, Ritter says they landed on the XXL Freshman Cover, and once the Raw tour commenced he began to feel some tension. It wasn't until the last tour date in Las Vegas when Ritter says Hopsin felt the need to get new management. Unfortunately, the split wasn't amicable, and Hopsin responded to the move with a diss record which Ritter felt was embarrassing and had him caught up in a few emotions. The former manager says that he tried to reach out to Hopsin to work out their issues; however, he was blocked from any phone calls.
Watch the full interview to learn more about Ritter's next move and his new label Still Movin.'

Hopsin is an extraordinary artist and this guy presents himself as a level-headed and well-spoken business man, there are probably holes in both sides of the story and we will all be none the wiser, but hey, what they did was incredible but the music industry can do that to people you love and care about, it can rip apart a friendship. Money and business matters, it's the poison to a friendship. I'm neutral on the matter, but I believe this guy is speaking genuinely.

You can tell hop was speaking on emotion but Damien is clearly not. He's just stating facts, being realistic and giving his side to things and his perspective of the events that happened and were discussed.

I'm a fan of hopsin and I followed this close when it happened, I watched everyone involved interviews, it is clear that hopsin kinda went crazy over some bull shit and had to just go through with after he made it public. Hopsin story from his own mouth has been an extreme exaggeration and all the other people really thought it could be fixed. lol I still like hopsin but yeah if u research this its clear that hopsin threw a tantrum. But oh well it makes for good music.

Scorpio1988 what would you do if you felt betrayed & taken advantage of & then on top of it all!, feeling like your dream is being taken out of your hands!!!??? Hopsin is a FIGHTER for the things he loves in life, which is a lot of what this world lacks of...this label was his life...his 'child almost!...at least take all of that into view.....but in Ritter's defense - Ritter was only strictly on the business side & I think forgot or was not clearly informed enough about the fact that Hops wanted to work WITH him! Which Hops should have tried harder to make clear to him. This could have gone another way. But when you're already broken and beaten from past experiences & wrongdoings that have been done to you, to be on your guard & eventually explode should have been expected or Ritter should have tried harder. Hops was in the right to defend himself & everything! It was obviously bound to happen.....lack of communication & willingness to understand one another was the issue here. But everything happens for a reason!!! And I learned that from Hops! 💯 REALEST artist I've ever had in my ears! Fukk the fake shit everyone seems to love nowadays!! Wish this wouldn't have happened though! Sad day!

So check my math, at the end of the day Damien had 60% and Hopsin had 32% of the total Hopsin album profit. 8% was deducted from the label profit to get Damien to an even 60%. Damien's profits included 34% (20+14) of Hopsin's 40% (for management fees) plus 50% of the 52% label profit. I'm just curious how percentages of businesses are split up. Thanks

When 1000 is made, funk volume gets 600. Hopsin gets 400 Of the 600 thers 50/50 Hopsin gets 300 Dame gets 300 Total hopsin:700 - manage fe Total dame:300+ manage fe The manage fees was 20% of artists money, 400*20%=80 which is 8% of the total 1000. Resulting in : Hopsin:700 - 80=620 :62% Dame:380: 38%

so i think what happeneded at 17:00 is as soon as hopsin got the idea of leaving and making undercover prodigy. he liked it so much that he was all ready working on ill mind 8. so his mind was so focused on making UP and not trying to fix FV. hopsin is the main reason funk volume had to break up because thats what hopsin wanted. everyone says the situation couldve been talked out, but hopsin didnt want to talk...

Never took the time to listen to this interview...Dame was pretty honest and to admit to a somewhat gambling problem...Hopsin is the talent...Hopsin needed a bigger split to make this happen....60/40 would been more realistic at the beginning...Hopsin doesn’t need Dame in any manner....Best of luck to Dame...Seems like a good guy....

Everyone naturally supports Hopsin because he has a decent level of fame and we like to be on the same team as someone of perceived high value. I think it’s possible that Dame did some things wrong (bad communication on expenses, gambling, etc) , but that maybe Hopsin did some things wrong as well (late for meetings, missing flights, not communicating his frustrations to Dame in-person or at least on the phone) and took some shots at Dame that weren’t necessarily part of the real problem. It’s possible they might have done better if the business was structured with better percentages up front.
