Jackie Montanez!! I was an officer when this little girl walked into the IDOC. We heard about her prior to her coming through the gates at 17 years old. She was a spitfire and a force to be reckoned with, ATTITUDE!!! I watched her change and grow over the years and I wish her the best for the rest of her free life.

when she said ‘’i hit her with a hammer’’ and stayed cold as ice you know this woman has seen so much in her life. She didn’t choose the neighborhood or the city she was born in. She didn’t choose her stepfather and she didn’t really have a choice to be in gangs. She is so strong and the fact that she can talk about her life like that is amazing. I wish her a peaceful life, away from violence, so her nervous system and her soul be in peace. God bless❤️‍🩹🙏🏽

Everyone has a choice as far as joining a gang or not. I have a couple of friends and family members who grew up in Humboldt Park who never joined gangs. Even one of them and his brother didn’t have their dad in their lives and their mom was a druggie and alchy so they would have been likely to join a gang and they had family members who were kings and they still chose to not join so I’m just saying everyone has a choice at the end of the day and that’s the point im trying to make

Great interview! Raw. Learning to navigate life outside is challenging enough in "ideal" circumstances... What I appreciate most is that Jacqueline openly holds herself accountable to the mistakes she has made. She is also straight up about how close a small situation could result in re incarceration of another 30+. My heart breaks to learn of her childhood sexual abuse. Rape began at 7. The abuse began much earlier... "it was a hush, hush thing." My hope is that Jacqueline finds the strength to find and heal that hurt child inside. Embrace that child. Forgive yourself.

Growing up in a similar background as Loca D - I believe everything she mentions. Even the cops sending kites thru her pager about her Opps. And this story rang loud for years (I was 12 when I learned of Loca D and the act she and the other girls did). I could listen to her for hours - OGs like her get all my respect, cuz few like her change and reflect. Sharing their gems with the young bucks (I’m 29 now). I was lucky knowing a few old heads in my life time but as a kid at the time who was enticed into this life, it hits different coming from someone who was considered a forced to be reckoned with. Love this.

Her story is so powerful it needs to be a movie or something, and maybe played at schools. Her organization needs to be put out there in a major way for the youth. I’m sure this interview has already spoke deeply into the youth who were ready to receive the message, who may not have had no one to guide them. I hope she continues to learn to forgive herself everyday because I know it’s heavy stuff to carry but I hope that all the positive she devoted herself to do now eases that load. AND to anyone who has ever lost a loved one to a violent crime. May you have the courage to carry on, may you find peace, May you find beauty in life again.

She has alot of healing to do. She is beautiful when she smiles and im glad that she has found happiness and love. After what she had gone through, she deserves all the happiness in the world. People really have NO IDEA just HOW much child abuse messes up a child physically, emotionally, and mentally. My father’s life guided my education. My associates degree was in child development, my bachelors degree was in sociology with an emphasis on incarceration reform and I earned my masters from NYU in social work. I like to say that I worked my butt off to put my dad’s last name on one of the top University in the world. We can prevent so much if we STOP using jails and prisons as our mental health systems.

The journey she went through? She murdered two people and went to prison. That’s it. It’s not a journey. She’s a murderer and went to prison.

This story kept me locked in and in tears bc I too know what it's like to be abused as a child. Shit! Plus also seeing things a lil child shouldn't be seeing. And if you need a loyal helping hand with those puppies I'm certified as well, and earned mine in the same setting. You have a friend this way and I can relate to your story in so many ways. Man your an inspiration to the youth in so many ways and I pray you get to do everything your Big Heart is praying for. Much love girl MJ

I have a feeling with all she has to say she would be an amazing women to work with inner-city kids or an advicate for people leaving the system. What an amazing testimony, "I took two lives, I will save a Million". Best to you!

It did break her. Are you incapable of understanding English? She said "When I was a fifteen year old child I had no care or understanding of the harm and heartache I had caused. But now, after doing my time, I have developed a conscience and I realize that I destroyed four or five family's lives and I view life totally different now." You are so stuck in your immature lifestyle that you think that growing up and accepting responsibility for one's actions is being "broken."

I watched this entire interview twice and what I noticed was how she started glowing more and more as the interview progressed. Vlad did a great job doing his own homework about her history, and interjecting the right questions to keep her engaged to converse. This was probably the best interview I've seen Vlad has made up to date.
