Dollar Tree has containers that snap on the sides that perfectly hold a box of crayons or a deck of cards. They come in a 2 pack, but sometimes you can find a bonus pack with 3.

yep dollar tree! there are a few different kinds that teachers like, but these with the blue tops are my favorite!!!

We are twinsies! I read The Kissing Hand on the first day! Always one of my first read alouds in TK. (I’m totally stealing your idea to give the littles the ❤️ cookies from IKEA!) I also give my littles their crayons in little Rubbermaid containers and have the “crayon talk” with them! Your class sounds sweet and I’m so happy you have an experienced aide to help you. Remember, on Monday, it’s only the 4th day of school .. crawl, walk, and then run. Procedures and routines take time and they will take extra time this year due to the fact that our littles have mostly been home for over a year. TUFS ☺️

I don't know what you decided to do with your yarn, but I thought, if I used that idea in my class, printing a picture of my class and using the yarn as a frame would be so cute. Then it would be two visual reminders of all that togetherness.

Are there other combo teachers in the building? Do you mind me asking why they have combo classes and how they determine which kids will be in the combo class? Btw, your classroom looks great and you will do great this year!

We do have other combo teachers, and a lot of the teachers at my school have been a combo teacher before. It's about enrollment! Usually they choose independent kids, or maybe middle of the road kids who could use extra support or pushing! And then the new enrollment students are thrown in, too. It's a big mix! I'm not 100% sure how everything works, I just show up, love them, and try to teach haha :)

My master teacher read the kissing hand and then her friend has like a clay oven thingy at her house and came and made little kissing hands with the students it was adorable!!
