This is a great video! Do you have a map of Bilbao that shows the streets with bike lanes and the separate bike paths? I wish Google maps had the bike infrastructure for Spain.

Another great city tour David! Do one for Porto. Take extra vitamins and coffee for the hills though.

Would you, please, share your GPX tracks for the quickest way to get out of Bilbao? It feels daunting to navigate out of the city-if you know what I mean. I will be cycling through Bilbao next month and I’m scared to the max! Which roads shall I cycle through in order to get to Castro-Urdiales, please? Your feedback/suggestions will be greatly appreciated-for which I thank you in advance. Cheers ;^3

Hey David! Thanks for sharing this video! Do you think it is safe to visit/move through Bilbao with the bike? I didn't see many bike paths in your video. Thanks 🙏

Bilbao, a small city for its size, has about 65 km of "Bidegorris" (red lanes), which is the Basque name for dedicated/preferential lanes for bikes. In addition to the fact that Spain is the second European country with the fewest accidents involving cyclists, there is a strong passion for cycling in the Basque Country. Besides the fact that Spain is the second European country with the least number of accidents involving cyclists, in the Basque Country there is a strong love for cycling, especially on mountain roads; yes, this is a rugged mountain area and brave sea! Green and blue! Bilbao is bike friendly in general, in particular if the cyclist is also respectful. Sometimes cycle lanes are painted red, others are marked by white dashed lines on the asphalt. Like the ones at 04:38 and with pictures of bicycles on the ground.

Para un vasco es muy duro que incluyas Bilbao y el País Vasco peninsular en general, en España.

Hi! About those old windowed facades, some landlords get permission from the town hall to add the balconies to the room. I have seen this several times: the renovation creates a cosy reading area with natural light, a space for chatting or just a larger living room. · The citizens of Bilbao are ashamed of Zubizuri Bridge. It is a catastrophic bridge designed by a botched architect. Probably the worst architect in the world. Always with cost overruns, doubling or tripling budgets, buildings with leaks, facades falling off, no emergency exits, auditoriums that only have one lift, expensive mechanical elements that never work, etc. If it were up to me, I would dynamite it. Any other bridge in the city is better and/or even more beautiful. · 10:49 two buildings, in front of the Iberdrola Tower, designed by Rafael Moneo and Alvaro Siza, two of the 7 Pritzker Prize winners in Bilbao. · Puppy (we say poo-pee 🙃) was made in 1992, but is there since the Guggen was established in 1997. · Actually Don Diego is not the founder of the city but the Lord who gave the category of Villa with privileges similar to the ones of a city. That means that Bilbao existed very very long time before as a port town. It's circa 1300 that the city wall is built up surrounding what today is called Casco Viejo or Siete Calles (Old Town or Seven Streets = the first seven streets of the city). The street you are biking when you said the name Don Diego, is in fact Gran vía (we just say this for shorting) de Don Diego López de Haro. · 16:07 that's the Palacio Euskalduna para Congresos y Música or Euskalduna Jauregia (in Basque). It was awarded as the best congress centre in the world in 2002. It has several performance halls with seating capacity from 600 seats downwards and an auditorium known for its excellent acoustics with a capacity of 2164 people and a stage of 1770 sq m. The opera season is celebrated here from Autumn to Spring. · 16:41 on the left the Itsasmuseum (Maritime or Sea Museum), on the right the red crane by name Carola. Formerly that space from there to (behind you) the Deusto Bridge was where the Euskalduna Shipyards were located, and that is where the Auditorium took its name. · The Vizcaya Bridge or Transporter Bridge is a UNESCO World Heritage Site (in the Industrial Heritage category). It was the first ferry bridge in the world and today, I believe, only 8 are still in operation.

Looks really nice. What are the living costs like in Bilbao?

Bilbao is expensive by Spanish standards, but less so than Madrid or Barcelona. The quality of life makes the difference: public transport, citizen safety, services, cultural offer, first class food, internationally famous cuisine...
