There are many genres of and for academic dissemination. One of the oldest is the book chapter. But through digitization and the cannibalization of edited collections, book chapters have a new life. When should you consider a book chapter for your research and yoru career?

Thank you for your great advice. I am a senior graduate student and wonder what is your view of taking a chapter to contribute to an encyclopedia project. I have a feeling of pressure to publish a journal article to be a competitive candidate in the job market, but some people said writing a chapter like encyclopedia does not effectively help for that, so reject the invitation and focus on writing journal. May I ask you to give me an advice about this? Thank you!
