Hi! Just discovered your channel and blog today, and I appreciate the inspiration. You know how some days you wake up half a size bigger and uncomfortable in your skin and it takes three outfit changes to find something reticent enough to suit your mood? That was my morning, only circumstance precluded outfit changes, and what I had laid out (striped oxford and kelly green shorts) was what I had to go do the day in. Too bright, I thought, too preppy, too sorority-sister, too young! It wasn’t til I got back and googled “preppy outfits” + my age that I found your blue-gingham-shirt-orange-jeans video and felt better. If she can do it and look smashing, I thought, I probably don’t look too absurd. So thanks for doing what you do.

Janis, The pink & gold theme is lovely! I wear a lot of pink -- mostly deep jewel tones. I worked in television, too, was sent to have my "colors" done years ago and was told I am a "Winter". Cool silver jewelry, jewel-toned fabrics and make-up. But I love gold, pale pink & blue and grey or light taupe eyeshadows! Hi, Toi! I don’t use a straightening product or flat iron, mostly because I’m concerned about ingredients causing me health issues and an iron damaging my fine hair. I’m sure it would look much more sleek if I did use one of them, but luckily my lifestyle is casual so it works out OK. I will say, my hair is straighter in the winter than it is right now, due to our humidity in the summer. It tends to be more frizzy now and will have a wave here and there but not always all the way down. But, I kind of like the way my hair looks in the summer. Maybe it’s just nice to have a change from winter when my hair is very fly away! How nice to meet another below-the-shoulder-hair girl. Is your hair straight or wavy?Do you use an iron or do you curl it? Plus, also how nice to meet another Texan born in 1960! Can you believe we are already our grandparents age?!! Wow, where on earth does the time go?!! ~Janis

@@JLJBackToClassic Hi Janis, My hair is thick but fine, it was bone straight when I was growing up, think Marsha Brady. Now that it's gray it's still straight, but has a little wave here and there. I wear my hair just like you, behind the ears. When I found you here I was thrilled that I wasn't the only one. Since my hair has gotten longer and is all one length, I have not used a blow dryer or straightener on it. I let it dry naturally. I do use a spray conditioner and Bumble and Bumble Don't Dry It on the ends. It's humid here too, I live in Virginia Beach now, since I was a teenager. My hair is flyaway in the winter too, full of static. My mom gives me a hard time for not "fixing" my hair every day, but I love it like this. I'm trying to live a more minimal and peaceful life. I love your style, you are a beautiful woman and I will be checking out the products you are recommending. I can't believe we are going to be 60 next year. If I knew it was going to go by so fast, I would have had more fun when I was younger, lol.

Hi, HoneyB563! You are such a sweetie, and therefore I know that any comment you make always comes from a kind and happy place, so I’m always so glad and grateful to see you here and commenting! You ask a very good question, because I do often end up having more dressing than I actually need on a salad in a restaurant. My reason is probably totally silly, but here it is: I always make the same amount of dressing ( 3 tablespoons olive oil, 3 tablespoons apple cider vinegar, 12 grindings black pepper, three pinches of Celtic sea salt or Himalayan salt). This is the perfect amount for the salads I make for myself for lunch at home, which are huge, and I never know how large a salad I’m going to end up choosing in a restaurant, so I just take the same amount of dressing with me every time. I could probably save what I don’t end up really needing, but because the salad dressing separates as I pour it out over a salad, I don’t tend to get all the ingredients if I only poor out a portion. I pour the whole amount out, so I have the correct oil and vinegar and salt and pepper mix, and therefore the best flavor. Also, those times when I have poured out only a portion, I’ve had an issue using it on a salad at home because it’s not enough. And because I don’t know how much seasoning is left in it (or oil vs. vinegar), I didn’t like combining it with a new batch for fear of making it too salty or just wrecking the flavor somehow. Oh my gosh, I’m sure this is more information than you even wanted to know! I am such a nut, I know, and my friends and family will attest to that fact. Old habits die hard, and this I guess is one of them, and like I said, I’m sure it’s ridiculously silly, but I want my salad to taste good and this is the only way I’ve figured out how to handle the dressing separating while pouring it out. Ugghh...Aarrgghh :-). Hugs ~Janis

It's the northeast corner of the restaurant, where you have the benefit of dining in air conditioning but viewing the gorgeous patio. Hi, Nancy! I thought the very same thing, but from what I’ve learned recently Himalayan salt comes from mines close to the Himalayas, and much of it comes from Pakistan. ~ Janis
