I have to share this! I’ve been having an allergic reaction on my face, and finally realized it was from the squalane in the elf superhydrate moisturizer. I didn’t know squalane could be olive-derived, since ive gotten it from pipette in the past, and I’m allergic to olives! I looked at the ingredients in the Aveeno oat gel moisturizer because I had an allergic reaction to that a year ago: fourth ingredient is cetearyl olivate… ITS BEEN OLIVES THIS WHOLE TIME! 😂

IIRC, Pipette is owned by the same company that owns Biossance and their squalane is sugar cane derived. Also! I’ve heard that Pipette has a lot of dupes for Biossance products, but squalane rich products seem to break me out so I’ve never compared the two.

Oh boy, I remember the gruelling schedules of docs in training. My husband graduated from med school in the mid eighties, and throughout his entire training program (internship through fellowship), he spent the night in hospital call rooms. Basically he spent 36 or more hours in the hospital whenever he was on call. I remember when 60 Minutes did an exposé called, The 36-hour Day. Tough times for sure.

I cut off the foot part of a cotton crew sock that had lost its mate, and just divided the leg part as wristbands. Could do with socks that are worn at the bottom but still thick at the ankle. They make good wrapping paper holders too. No denting the paper.

Some of us have to deal with this throughout our career, not just residency. I’m a physician who still has to take call one week per month and get woken up in the middle of the night multiple times and then have to go to work the next morning. It’s one of the reasons that I will be retiring early.

This is so accurate about sleep deprivation. After my 3rd child was born I was driving to the store off of VERY little sleep and I almost got in a accident because I was so sleep deprived my eyes did not want to stay open “I thought I was okay to drive” but I obviously was not. I do not drink alcohol often but the few times I have and have caught a “buzz” that’s how I feel when I get sleepy. Like I’ve been drinking. So dangerous how sleep deprived our society is in general and they have to be out there driving and making serious decisions being sleep deprived. 😞 It’s really how we’ve been like brainwashed into to believing that we always need to be on the go and doing way more than we really need to be doing. The workaholic lifestyle that has been shoved down people’s throats is so bad for our health.

Tried the Milani tubing mascara and I'm loving it so far! I had seen it before, but tried it because of your video and how you specifically mentioned it helps with length. My lashes are pretty long naturally but very straight and more on the thin side. So I curl them very well (heat up curler with blow dryer). So far this mascara not only helps with length, but also seems to hold curl and removes very easily. Thanks for helping me find a new favorite! 🥰♥️

Sleep is of great importance in our lives and especially for those who are more advanced like doctors of any field and expertise, lawyers, secretaries etc and of course for those who also drive, because when these individuals drive they have to be in full control of their body's actions. Advantages of sleep 1) Recharging your batteries 2) Improving your memory and learning 3) Boosting your immune system 4) Maintaining a healthy weight 5) Supporting mental health Disadvantages of sleep 1) Sleep deprivation 2)Difficulty falling or staying asleep 3) Disruptions to daily routine 4) Increased risk of accidents 5) Negative impact on mental health Be save and get good quality of sleep dr Andrea and all of you my dear friends 💖💗💚🙏😇😊💛.

To your comment on questioning 'those of authority'; when my husband was hospitalized, a surgeon stated something which didn't make sense to me . When I questioned him due to my 'ignorance ' I thought he was going to lose his mind with me. His attitude was belligerent, and obnoxious but I learned if you don't connect well with your HCP, you have a choice to ask for someone else. Sadly, the choices are becoming fewer with the number of Physicians retiring or just leaving the industry altogether. Love your content today, Dr. Andrea

It's funny you're talking about sleep. My dad always had a freakish ability to sleep very little yet remain mentally sharp and productive. My grandmother said he was like that since he was a baby. However, he understood that wasn't normal for most people and he encouraged us to be good about our sleep hygiene and be sure we had adequate rest. I know residents are exploited and it's really disgusting. Not only are they working as residents many are also moonlighting as attendings and that allows the hospitals to skirt the labor laws.

I know this is an older vlog, but it is a timely one…my husband is a doc and is on call tonight! 😩 Our entire house is on call whenever he is. None of us (including the pets) sleep very well when it’s a call night…too much commotion and anxiety re: “when will the pager go off?!”. My work hours are more flexible and I can usually catch a nap the next day, so I sometimes drive him to the hospital if he has to physically go see a patient at the hospital. I just don’t want him on the road-alone-in the middle of the night while sleep deprived.

Talking about sleep deprived due to being on-call, I remember 1 of my parents' friend willing to drive her daughter back/fro to the hospital (at any time) while she was doing her houseman-ship due to a car accident where one of her daughter's fellow houseman dying in a car crash a few months before (the lady was going back home after 72 hours of on-call). She also did the same with her 2nd daughter doing her houseman-ship a few years. Being sleep deprived does mess up with your brain process. I notice I get more distracted with trying not to sleep while at work when my insomnia strikes.

Your rant about sleep reminds me of the episode in The Avatar: The Last Airbender episode where they are forced to stay awake all night while Azula is tracking them because Appa is shedding his fur and leaving then a trail

Interesting to hear about ED and dermatology and on call .. we never call in my ED and we send them home... & Residency is insane. Speaking of mistakes when sleep deprived, a client I had at a practice I worked at a clinic had her femoral artery nicked during an emergent c section and she started bleeding out. She passed out and they had to go in again and fix it. I remembered seeing her after and I asked her why she looked really sick... She explained that the provider who did her c section screwed up. And she mentioned that she found out that the provider was on 23 hours of work and she was seeking a lawyer for medical malpractice

Even when questioned, things don’t change. As you mentioned, even though people know the history behind the residency requirements, and they’re much better than before, it’s still not good enough. Means with school start times. Although I recognize it’s a trade off-in my school district school started earlier for the older kids, and was later for the younger kids. It was actually helpful because older kids could be home when the younger kids came home. But I think that also depended on extra curricular as well. Not sure. I wonder how parents and older kids would feel if school started later for them but they had to drop off the younger kids and the parents would pick them up? Idk. I feel like job timings abd school timings are never synced

I remember being obsessed with Myth-busters in years gone by, and they did a feature on driving sleep-deprived vs. otherwise impaired (🍺), and the results were damning 😂 Get your sleep, folks. Good for mind and body 😴

I heard the sleep deprivation over years has linked to Alzhiemer, not sure if that is true or have research on it. It makes sense as that is the time your body/brain reset/recover. I do feel even if you can function at minimal at younger age, the effect on the brain especially may be seen at the later age.

Great vlog! Just curios, what do you do with the candle glass containers when the candle runs out? Do you recycle or upcycle them?

Glad you are cognizant of gas pump safety, Dr. Dray. I exclusively refuel at Costco as well. True statements regarding criminality in regard to redirecting those efforts for positive pursuits. Thanks, friend.

I don’t know why but my eyes have gotten extremely sensitive (probably allergies) so now I just don’t bother with mascara anymore 😮 it’s crazy because mascara was my number one can’t live without product but I guess I can live without it 😂 And even eyeshadow can sometimes be a problem but I always use sunscreen by my eyes! I’m thankful to have found some great non stinging sunscreen, that is very important. I also fear gas stations here, they are very dangerous so I try to be aware of my surroundings and try to move quick. You basically have to be aware anytime you’re in a parking lot here and especially if you’re by yourself. Houston is just such a big city!

My son is 17. His start time is 8:40am. He goes to a alternative school. Best decision we made. But… The bus comes at 6:45am!!!😮 We live 10-12 minutes from the school. So I take him so he can sleep another hour! It is crazy what they expect kids to do these day without enough sleep.
