You both really have that love and respect for one another. It's what a marriage should be. She was right. So please celebrate what you each have in one another. Cynthia...I have been married to my 2nd husband 31 years. I totally agree. My first husband wasn't abusive...but an acholic. We were also super young. He loved me...but nothing like my current husband. I thank him all the time for his special love. 💕

I agree with you about the wedding. I married an abusive person when I was 18 and divorced at 20. I remarried at 26 and I did more for my 2nd wedding than my 1st because it was much more exciting and celebrating a beautiful relationship. (We dated for 2 years.) I say celebrate! Celebrating your bridal season can be so much more than bridal showers, etc. My daughter did not want a bridal shower because so many had to travel to wedding, and she felt that was a big enough expense for them. My first marriage ended because of my ex-husband‘s infidelity as well and I think that puts a different attitude towards people usually not making as big of a deal about your second wedding. It’s been my experience that most family and friends are more than happy to treat it like the first time. Everyone knows your intentions and desire was to be married the rest of your life, and that you got the shaft. People are very gracious when it comes to these kinds of things and you need to be for yourself..

The car chat made me cry a little. I've never been married, heck I've barely even had a "relationship" but I can definitely relate to your feelings. I know from toxic things and people in our lives that it changes how we operate. What once made us happy we can become sad about, uninterested, or ashamed. We can start to hide our joy, be afraid to have it or even get triggers from something so small. Something as simple as one of your favorite drinks, a phrase, or even a color can spark unwanted thoughts and feeligs. Over time (sometimes very slowly sometimes not) we will hopefully be able to enjoy things fully that we used to and not even have to second guess it. I think you are doing great and I hope you are able to still celebrate. I think you have amazing people around you and are very blessed with their love. 💕

I think that the regret goes away with time. I got married at 18 and and now planning a wedding at 28 and i think had i gotten married a few year earlier i would completely feel the same about it. But now i just want to celebrate how amazing of a partner i have. Plus my partner has never been married and i wouldnt want to make it less for my sake.

my first marriage was not the big white wedding and tbh i got married to my childhood sweetheart because i was pregnant ( at this point i was actually 24 so not really young), my marriage ended for similar reasons to yours, i ended it and i meet my forever man when i was least expecting it, we had an absolutely beautiful wedding that was everything we had both always dreamed of and more, and we have been married for 22 years, 2 children from my first marriage and 2 together, so we have 4 amazing children. Love your videos and so glad to see you so excited. I think you bring up understandable points about being hesitant about doing certain pre-wedding things in light that it is your second marriage even though you deserve to feel all the joy about your new marriage. To your points though that you have done things differently- what does a big flashy bachelorette party really have to do with celebrating a wedding? You seem so much more calm and self assured and this has been such a great relationship. So many of those pre wedding things in our culture are so image oriented and about celebrating with people who have little to do with the vows that are ultimately between two people. I almost think that by going about things the way you are now- albeit in a less flashy way in front of others, you are focusing on you and your new spouse in a way that might have been a little bit more in the background had you done things differently. The way you are framing it sounds like you are saying it is because you didn’t want to impose on other people and so didn’t want to have them do all that stuff- maybe that is true in some ways but I think you’re wiser than that! You have so much joy in the day to day now that I didn’t think you used to have. No matter what festivities you decide to go for I think you have an awareness now that all that stuff isn’t necessarily what is important or what it means to celebrate a marriage.

After listening to you talk about your regrets, I was thinking that it is such a shame that you feel that way. I think you need to begin thinking that what happen in the past, should do just that stay in the past. Matter of fact, think of it as a "nightmare" that you once had, and now you have woken up and you can move on with life. Think of it as a new beginning and you have found your Prince Charming.
