I did it Jay! After months of studying your videos and playing around with Davinci, I recently produced some of the best results that I ever have! Almost perfect! I built a gaming pc for my husband and while I dabble in gaming, I decided to download Davinci Resolve because it was free, and I needed a new hobby. Honestly, I'm amazed at my proficiency with Davinci Resolve-and it's only been 7 months. I cant imagine how good I will be by next year! I give all my thanks to you and Casey Farris! I am having the time of my life watching your videos and applying what I've learned!

Another great tutorial. I am learning a lot from you. Thanks. I think that perhaps the effects of these settings could be made a bit more obvious if you started with a much poorer recorded audio track. I realize you do want to start with the best you can, but it might be helpful for us who are learning some of the terminology and effects on how these settings can be used to improve the audio if you start with a poor recording? Nice - audio is so important in videos and I think it's not understood as well as the 'video editing' part. A great video with bad audio is hard to watch, but a so so video with great audio is easy to watch. I took a quick look at some of the Stats for Nerds on a few videos on your channel and it looks like KZbin was reducing the audio in the video by up to 50% in some cases. Getting your levels set and then checking the loudness at the end will help insure KZbin doesn't squash your audio down. Best of luck on your channel, you've got some great footage!

Depending what’s in the background, you might not be able to pull out the voice using DaVinci Resolve. You need something more advance like izotope. The best thing you can do in Resolve is try and reduce the background noise so you can work with the vocal better.

Thats, what I done since premiere 4/fcp and now davinci. But I thought since Fairlight is a pro audio program. You might be able to do this. You can do this in auditon for example. My experience is that if you cut out inhales, and or a background noise and leave gaps. Its can give you problems. Sure you can ad in room tone in the gaps. But usally the noisefloor is so low that you cant hear it. Then I rather mark stuff I like to kill and hit the silence key. No need to ride keyframes up and down. Will make a feature request. Dang, hoped I missed this tool.

Every time I "hear the compression" all I'm really hearing is the background ambient noise pumping in and out.
@JasonYadlovski
@JasonYadlovski 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Rob - which effect are you working with? Compression should be just reducing the dynamic range of the clip a bit so you aren't peaking. It shouldn't be doing anything to the background noise. You'd have to use other things like a Gate or Noise Reduction to take care of the background noise. Hope this helps! Thanks for watching!

Hey Jason! I am very bad at eqing and when I am editing video my audio track has three voices on it (we have one mic for three people.) With your recommendation of the Alex Audio Butler that helped be get the volumes properly compressed to have a relatively close loudness. So thanks for that. However, I was wondering if you knew of any similar programs that would be able to automatically EQ voices, and change the EQ at the different parts of the video, sort of how Audio Butler adjusts loudness for different parts of my voice track. Thanks in advance!
@JasonYadlovski
@JasonYadlovski 3 жыл бұрын
Hi! Glad to hear you got the Alex Butler working for you. 👍 As far as I’m aware, there is no automatic EQ that will constantly adjust with your clip. Maybe that exists in a different program but not in DaVinci Resolve. I think I already mentioned this but the best way would be to have three separate audio tracks, One for each person. But I realize that’s not easy, requires more gear etc. etc. You can try searching the web for a VST plug-in that you could drop into resolve. Offhand I don’t know if any exist to do what you want.

I know nothing about this stuff, so I'm looking for very simple solutions. Before I try these things, what about the import process itself? I've taken a clip from a film, and when placed on its own timeline, the sound is fine. But if I copy/paste into a second timeline, suddenly the dialogue is very subdued while the ambient sound is quite loud. This is all on a single track. So I'm not sure what's causing this. Maybe there's an easy fix? My purpose in doing this is to share a brief clip (a few seconds) in the midst of a video I'm editing together that has mostly my own recorded sound, and I'm having no issues with my recording. Anyone have any suggestions?

Nice job Jason. I tried using the dynamics after I watched your video on that, and my computer crashed. Said the GPU memory was insufficient. I had to restart DVR v17. Have you had any problems with that ? I only had one audio track that I was working on. My gpu card is a 580, which is not the fastest, but it's decent. Have you heard of others complaining that the dynamics crashed their computer ?
@JasonYadlovski
@JasonYadlovski 3 жыл бұрын
Hi! Strange that it would crash your computer. It shouldn't be that taxing on the machine. Make sure your graphics driver is up to date. I've seen issues where people need to update the graphics drivers and then it works fine. Worse case I'd try copying your timeline into a new project and see how that works. Sometimes project files get corrupt and weird stuff happens. Hope this helps!

So how do you add compression and EQ to individual clips?
@JasonYadlovski
@JasonYadlovski 3 жыл бұрын
Hi! To EQ a single clip, you would have to do it in the edit tab using the inspector. Select the clip, open the inspector and make adjustments to the EQ there. However the EQ is a little more basic there. You cannot add compression from the dynamics panel to an individual clip, only on a track level. So you’d have to put your clip in a track by itself to apply the compression. If you wanted to use the soft clipper effect or maybe a multi band compressor or a limiter effect, then you could put it on a single clip in the edit tab or in Fairlight. With any of the effects, you have the option to place it on a single clip instead of a whole track. I hope this helps answer your question, thanks for watching!
@TPVPRO
@TPVPRO 3 жыл бұрын
@@JasonYadlovski Thanks but what about noise reduction and more than a 4 band EQ seems extremely limited.
@JasonYadlovski
@JasonYadlovski 3 жыл бұрын
You can take the noise reduction effect and drop it on any clip if you want. Or you can use it on a track level also. As far as an EQ, you need an EQ plug-in, it could be a third-party VST, and then you would be able to drop that on just a clip. I would recommend that you put all of the audio from the same source, same person, etc. in the same track so you can apply the changes globally instead of on every single clip. But there are ways to use things on individual clips.
