This are the lyrics in english ;) My heart is burning Now, dear children, pay good attention I’m the voice coming from the pillow I brought something with me I teared it out of my chest With this heart I have the power To blackmail your eyelids I sing until the day awakens A bright light on the firmament My heart is burning They’re coming for you at night Demons, ghosts, dark fairies They’re crawling out of the cellar shaft And will see through your bedding Well, dear children, pay good attention I’m the voice coming from your pillow I brought something with me A bright light on the firmament My heart is burning My heart is burning They’re coming for you at night And steal your tiny, hot tears They wait until the moon awakens And press them into my cold veins Well, dear children, pay good attention I’m the voice coming from your pillow I’ll sing until the dawn of day A bright light on the firmament My heart is burning

This was the first song I heard of theirs, and even though it is wildly different from other songs, I have many I love as much. Often, if I find something different from a band's usual style I will not like the usual stuff, but Rammstein really pulls off a lot of great songs, over many eras, as they evolved even. They just always seemed to have good songs coming out, and never peaked nor got stale as other bands seem to.

Lolli, here's my take on this incredible performance: 'Nun liebe Kinder, gebt fein Acht' = Now dear children, pay attention........'Ich bind die Stimme aus dem Kissen' = I am the voice from the pillow'..........Till portrays the "Sandman" (a character in a German kids' show), who has the power to deliver children from the monsters in their nightmares OR allow their terror to continue until the 'bright light shines from Heaven' in the morning ( ein heller Schein am Firmament ).....while terrifying, the Sandman actually cares for children, which explains the sadness and tears while he sings......and why his smile is so painful.......'Mein herz brennt' = my heart burns..........Till is a theatrical master ..........

Yes, the "Nun, liebe Kinder, gebt fein acht..." / "Now, dear children, take good attention..." is/was a very traditional intro to many Sandmann/sandman fairy tales on TV as well as the even older Kasperletheater/ puppet theater shows in Germany. Like anything Rammstein Till Lindemann works masterfully with the multiple meanings in German yet also including very subtle changes on the traditional material.

Wha I have always liked about Rammstein is that they actually make melodies in their songs (or what I think of as melodies) and even though hard and rough, they have a sense of hurt, sadness and fragility in quite a lot of them. Engel, Sonne, Seemann etc.

This song always makes me sad. He's portraying the Sandman. He takes all the evils that befall children at night into himself and burns them in his heart, but doing so gives him a terrifying visage, so the very one's he protects are afraid of him. This is a lament. He want's things to be different, but knows they can't be. But regardless of his anguish, "Mein Herz Brennt", he will do his job anyway.

If you intend to do more Rammstein in the future, i recommend getting a version with good english captions, since the lyrics are always the essence of the song. There are a few channels, that offer these versions. Everything else , melody, video or stage show is built around the words. Often these are deceptive and the band never gives a real hint towards the interpretation. What is typical for their art is the use of cultural references, both in lyrics and in visuals, a very considerate use of colours in the videos and a total lack of compromise. "Angst" would be a good choice, because the message is relatively clear and shows the typical sound better.

The demon crawl sover it and makes the kids cry which is used to have the demon survive. If you look at the original video there is a lot of little easter eggs used in this video. Same room also was used in the original video. And the smile is a demon trying to pretend to smile while not knowing the meaning or reason behind it.
