correction though, this is a whole tone lower than the original key. and that's fine! she was smart. she knew her voice had to adapt to changes and where it would be more comfortable. even in the '95 clip you've reacted to, she already lowered the key by a semitone so she could display more vocal acrobatics easily. she changes her choices, approach and technique in every era she had and i really find that smart and wise.

i love her 2000's voice, it sounds way more colorful in my ears than 90's because she's writing songs that she sings as breathy as she wants while giving us belts for daaays. her tone also in these years is my favorite. i also love how bright her energy is here with a big smile and full of confidence because this is the era where she "came back" after being "written off" after a series of unfortunate events
@raphaelrodrigues16453 жыл бұрын
That's because on the 2000s she's 30. The female voice usually matures around that age. Also, she was in a good place mentally (after her breakdown) and was well rested. That's the recipe for a great voice.
@mijalakis33 жыл бұрын
You're totally right about the head voice at the beggining. If you listen to the ending note on her song "Infinity" many people say it's whistle but it's actually head voice just like in here. Mariah is at her best 2003-2006 this the Charmbracelet album era and The Emancipation of Mimi era. 33-36 years old, she didn't not have children until she was 40 although she had a miscarriage in 2008 right before her performance in The X Factor UK of I stay in love and Hero with the contestants. You can see the sadness in her face in that performance. While she was pregnant with her twins she sang at The Whitehouse Christmas Special her version of Oh Come all ye faithful! And her original song "One Child" and her vocals are on point!. Sadly nowadays she has been hurt a lot by the media in the US, she is getting older and she looks scared in performances in the US. She doesn't move on stage, she barely smiles at times, she seems stuff and frightened, it's horrible to see how people have traumatized such a brilliant singer instead of pushing her forward to continue getting better as she has for the las 25 years. That's why she looks so comfortable in Japan, Australia, even England, she even took a mini residence and Prince Albert Royal Hall which she had sold out shows or China, but in her home USA she is frightened.

I think a lot of lambs(Mariah fans) and critics fall victim to and perpetuate sexism and because she’s not 20 anymore they believe she has faltered. You will have less and less performances recommended to watch the further her career goes because people are convinced her voice was “lost” after 1997. All she really needed was a nap. She has been doing at home singing performances in the last year and I think it would be fun to watch you go through those, specifically the Hero, Heroes, Joy To The World December 2020 at home performance. Omg, this is the most amount of comment I ever wrote on a single channel😂 at last there's someone that point out how generous Mariah is with her fans, doing the same thing over and over again for 31 years now. Mariah once said in an interview that she did the best with what she has, and some fake lambs have the audacity to try to teach Mariah in the comments (not here) on how to sing her songs so that she can deliver her songs the same way as she did in the 90's! And they have the audacity to say that Mariah is lazy and has bad vocal techniques because her voice changes. Mariah is really a perfect in pitch beast most of time, that's why she can deliver and sound just like her studio vocals. Please react to we belong together live (wbt) in 2005/6 and acapella 2020 and dont believe when some people said she lypsincs all her wbt live performances (only some are lypsinced) during that time. She is just that good. Great job for analysis again!

people will find any excuse to try and bring down singers. the standard of the public has become impossible to match consistently. Mariah is amazing for being able to sing the stuff she did in the 90s. most singers change what they sing as they age.

Your reaction videos are the best I’ve seen. I’ve been watching vocal analysis videos for years. The thing about Mariah’s so-called “prime,” which is generally understood to be between 1990-1996, is that as soon as 1997 hit, there was a marked difference in her voice. Her performances were less consistent, and she suddenly had more difficulty hitting the same high notes, as she had the year prior, particularly belting. This has been conventionally attributed to her nodules acting up after her Daydream tour in ‘96. She still had absolutely amazing vocal moments. And when she made her “comeback” in the early 2000s her voice was more mature, and she had amazing performances, such as this one and some of the others you’ve reacted to.

There’s a lot of pitch raising, autotune/melodyne correction and blended takes. It was VERY edited. She can’t sing that song live anymore for like 12-15 years, so how she suddenly would be able to do that after all this period and with some ease considering her voice just deterioted more and more?! She was clearly lipping in the video, her facial expressions, the gestures, the mouth movements… Everything indicates it was pre-recorded and edited.

This is mariahs prime! People think it was in 1995 with dreamlover. Nope. She had become a grown woman by this point and her voice was big, full and sensual. She has a sexiness to her voice that wasn't really their in the early nineties. Everything about the emancipation of Mimi screams Prime Vocals. Of course, her extensive touring and the shear amount of times she had performed (with nodules!) Had taken its toll, but nonetheless her voice here is beautiful. 😍

i usually never watch vocal coaches on youtube reacting to stuff because of many reasons but i stumbled upon this video and im pleasantly surprised. what you said at the start, about her working with 2 voices, is something i wish people would understand before ruthlessly criticizing her voice, or questioning her skill. you simply can't sing how she sings if you dont have extensive knowledge of your own vocal tract, you're not born with this level of skill lol. as a suggestion, i think it would be really interesting if you touched on her style of singing and how that may have afected how her voice matured/aged. im legitimately interested in your input, it's very rare for a singer that doesn't tour much (mariah in the 90s) to go through so many, i assume, anatomical changes that drastically change how she *has* to approach singing, i believe this to be a consequence of her extensive studio sessions + her unique approach to singing, but like i said, im interesting to hear what you have to say.

Thanks for making this analysis video available!!!!!! You made an incredible breakdown. Regarding her vocal nodules: she has said herself in an interview that, because she's always had them, she learned throughout her life/career to sing "AROUND them"; WITH them working for her. And, in my honest unprofessional opinion, it helps to give her voice a lot of little details you usually don't get to hear in other ppl and make it even more "magical". Also, of course, it makes her instrument a lot more delicate overall, hence why she's always preaching vocal rest etc.

I love what you said about Mariah re-learning how to use her changing voice with age. I'd love to hear you analyse her doing Butterfly in 97 (SNL or Letterman perforrmances). It's a hard song to sing, but you could tell her voice was changing so it wasn't as effortless but her as earlier in the 90s. She still nailed it but there were changes to her tone and timbre, but you could tell she was trying to navigate her voice changing. It's interesting in some parts her high airy vocals have rasp to them, and almost sound like they're producing 2 notes at the same time (most noticable in the acapella of the studio version) Keep em up! Love the more indepth analysis that we get from other reactions where folk just watch it and say a couple of things!

She actually gave birth to her twins in 2011 at age 41. Hope you would react/analyze Mariah's song One Child, it's a Christmas song she wrote way back in 2010 and she was still pregnant that time. ♥️♥️

I so love your reactions. please react to her song "lead the way" a lot of things to discuss about her musicality and the use of her voice. you'll enjoy it. Just like Joyride.😊

i see this all, you often discuss mariah's mic technique, i hope you will also discuss this in whitney houston in the future, very interesting because whitney is the opposite of mariah, she almost never pulls the mic that she uses even when hitting a belt that is very strong like a tsunami , I hope you will review his performance at ll The Man That I Need Live on The Arsenio Hall Show 1990 or one moment in time grammy

Mariah has vocal nodules as well that only got worse with time. The fact that she can sing through them is quite amazing. She’s constant battling her voice
