I think the problem is just that most people think being able to sing means belting high notes every 5 seconds. And yeah of course that's impressive but is it all that there is to singing? In my opinion no. Maybe selena doesn't have the biggest range but she's able to hold the notes in her range & I really love her tone🤷 maybe her style of singing isn't everyone's thing but not liking something doesn't mean it's inherently bad

I absolutely agree with you - singing well doesn’t mean being the loudest belt in the room or having the biggest range, it’s about so much more than that. Tone, emotional capture, stylistic technique and performance ability all have an impact too. This is one of the biggest things I learned on my degree course - to appreciate all the differences between singers and how these unique differences can be celebrated.

yes, so many people say that her lupus doesn't affect her voice but it clearly does. Even when you hear her speaking it's much more shaky than it was prior to her diagnosis or even just a few years ago. She's clearly more comfortable in her regular concerts than televised ones because of all the hate :/

I love that she has this type of tone where I feel like I'm getting a warm hug from her. I feel at peace and like drinking a nice cup of tea outside in spring. I don't listen to too many singer with high pitched notes because it messes with my anxiety somehow. Like I respect Ari, but some of her songs where she sings those more higher notes that can get whistly, tend to make me feel uneasy and my heart rates speeds up really ugly. So for me Selena and similar artist with low to breathy voices are more calmer for me.

Yes!! I love Selena and I love her tone so much, she's my favorite singer, I've been to her shows and never missed anything on her vocals. People think that because she can't reach the same notes as Ariana, for example, she is a bad singer. But look at Madonna and so much others?? Also, what Kelly Clarkson said to her in an interview is the most pure truth: "The best singer in the world doesn't have to be the loudest, the best singer in the world is the one that moves you". She said that after Selena herself talks about people may not thinking she is the best singer. Not to mention her lupus which affects her so much. I don't know if this is true but I always felt like Selena is very anxious and stressed about performing live and that really affects her singing ability on stage and I don't think all the negative comments are doing her any favour in overcoming that... But I mean whenever you listen to her singing live in a more private, chilled setting without an audience for example her voice is so soft and angelic so she can definitely sing! She may not be the best singer in the world but she is a good singer for sure and I personally love the tone of her voice!
