The shirt Dan is wearing is his own military shirt, he is a veteran. Dan has mentioned several times, that his favorite songs to sing are battle hymns. Many thanks for your reaction to this one!

@@mlincoln1 I understand it's not actually "mandatory," but if you don't do it, there are a lot of things you can't do (like buy property, get a job, other important things).

Just to correct a misunderstanding here. Dan is NOT a veteran, since he didn't participate in battle. He was only a regular constabel in the armytraining, which he will also mention himself if asked. Military veterans are soldiers who has been in actual war.

The song is about the Sacking of Rome on May 6th, 1527 by 34,000 mutinying soldiers and mercenaries of the Holy Roman Empire and Spain. There was about 5000 Vatican militia and the 189 Papal Swiss Guard. In the event known as the Stand of the Swiss Guard, the Swiss, alongside the garrison's remaining soldiers, made their last stand in the Teutonic Cemetery within the Vatican. The Swiss fought bitterly, but were hopelessly outnumbered and almost annihilated. Some survivors, accompanied by a band of refugees, fell back to the steps of St. Peter's Basilica. Those who went toward the Basilica were massacred, and only 42 survived. This group of 42, under the command of Hercules Goldli, managed to stave off the Habsburg troops pursuing the Pope's entourage as it made its way across the Passetto di Borgo, a secure elevated passage that connects the Vatican City to Castel Sant'Angelo. In commemoration of the Swiss Guard's bravery in defending Pope Clement VII during the Sack of Rome, recruits to the Swiss Guard are sworn in on 6 May every year

This cover led me to Sabaton. Now I follow both Dan & Sabaton. Dan did an amazing job! Joakim sounds pretty much hurried breath in most of his songs, & Dan complemented him perfectly. (Dan is Mr. Lungs, as we all well know. 30 second long strong note singer can even master shallow breathing notes. Remarkable!)

I recently surfed across a video of a "basement" jam with Dan as a featured guest - having a senior moment and will have to "ponder" the entertainer/band name in another search, think he is also Brazilian (it's unusual with just 3 letters and I'd not seen it before). Anyway, Dan was animated and interactive and having fun!

Dan has actually done some live appearances with his band Fearless on stage in the city he lives in. Not sure if he still does, but there's at least 3 videos of them in his oldest videos, about 12 years ago and one 11 years ago. The first two look like he's wearing a wig and face paint for some kind of festival.

This is one of my recent favorites!! I really appreciate your reactions since you're a vocal coach. I did send a donation & request for your reaction to Dan's "Dawn of Victory" cover from Rhapsody of Fire (link at end of this). Features the great Fabio Lione, who is the original singer on this Rhapsody of Fire song, and a huge influence on Dan's singing style, especially when Dan was just starting out! Dan's band, Fearless, is also playing in this video (so awesome). During this you can see how proud and thrilled Dan is to sing with Fabio! kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z6qclYSnrK6VnKc

Dan Vasc is good no doubt about that (but there are to much rrrrr in his version here), but nobody can sing this song as perfect as Joakim Broden does. Together with the original sound of Sabaton it is unbeatable. Such a great song.
